Job Summary

As the Data Engineer in the Technologys Innovation Department Fares Technology team you will be building and maintaining data pipelines to support analysis of financial and other types of data.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a Data Engineer on our Fares Technology team you will play a pivotal role in shaping the architecture and flow of fares technology data across this role you will architect data solutions using modern engineering principles ensuring scalability and reliability. Your competency in data modeling will be crucial for designing structures that support our business logic and analytical needs. Your analytical skills will be put to use tuning logic to optimizing data processing and retrieval performance.

This role demands a blend of technical acumen in data engineering tools and practices strategic thinking for technology selection and the interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within the team and broader organization. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our data-driven strategies making this a critical and rewarding position in our department.

Minimum Education

  • This role has no minimum education requirements.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience in Data Engineering
  • Proficient with Python (3 years)
  • Proficient with SQL and query optimization (3 years)
  • Experience with data management on local environments
  • Experience with automated testing including continuous integration (CI)
  • Experience with Git workflows (such as pull requests) and code reviewing
  • Experience with data pipeline architecture and deployment
  • Experience with data modeling
  • Experience with data quality analysis
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technology
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and debugging abilities
Attention to detail

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Knowledge of transit data standards (such as GTFS GTFS-RT TODS TIDES)
  • Experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code tools
  • Experience with AWS data tools and resource management
  • Experience with cross-language data platforms like Arrow

Substitutions Include

  • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelors degree requirement.
  • An associate degree from an accredited institution and an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelors degree requirement.
  • A masters degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
  • A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.

  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check comprehensive background screening and / or medical Clinic screening potentially including physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned directed or necessary for this position including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions emergencies or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service.
  • Intern / co-op staff must be enrolled full or part-time in an accredited educational program and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the entire duration of the internship / co-op. Additionally interns / co-ops must have valid work authorization and U.S. Social Security Numberprior to starting their positions and throughout the duration of their program.
