Position Overview
Windham Academy is seeking a dynamic student-centered Middle School Science Teacher to join our growing upper school team. The ideal candidate is passionate about inquiry-based learning hands-on experimentation and supporting students in developing strong scientific reasoning and problem-solving skills. This educator will create an engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity perseverance and a love for exploring the natural world.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Deliver high-quality science instruction aligned to the schools curriculum
Plan prepare and implement lessons that include hands-on labs demonstrations multimedia resources and real-world applications.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic social and emotional needs of middle school learners.
Integrate literacy math and cross-curricular connections into science lessons when appropriate.
Classroom Environment
Establish and maintain a safe organized and welcoming classroom environment.
Develop clear expectations for student conduct and reinforce positive behavior.
Manage materials and lab equipment responsibly ensuring safety guidelines are consistently followed.
Assessment & Data
Create and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decision-making.
Maintain accurate records of grades attendance and student work habits.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate regularly and professionally with students families and colleagues.
Participate in grade-level and content-area planning staff meetings and professional learning communities.
Collaborate with special education teachers interventionists and other support staff to ensure all students receive appropriate accommodations.
Professional Responsibilities
Uphold all school policies expectations and core values.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth.
Support school events field trips extracurricular activities and community engagement initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelors degree in Science Education or a related scientific discipline.
Valid New Hampshire teaching certification (or eligibility for certification).
Strong understanding of middle school developmental needs and effective teaching practices.
Preferred
Experience teaching in a charter school or similar educational setting
Experience implementing inquiry-based student-centered instruction and lab-based learning.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
