Calgary Girls Charter School (CGCS) is seeking a qualified applicant for a Temporary Education Assistant. This full-time position will commence immediately.
With direction from the classroom teacher the Education Assistant is responsible to:
- Support students with accommodations and strategies found in the IPP
- Provide learning support as well as executive function support to a single student or a small group of students
- Based on knowledge of the student provide suggestions to the Teacher regarding ways to help the student reach the IPP goals
- Collect data to support student growth
- Support teacher driven Universal Design for Learning strategies within the classroom
- Maintain an effective working relationship with the students learning team
- Communicate relevant information to the Teacher
- Encourage positive interactions among students
- Facilitate positive development of a students social skills and emotional development.
- Supervise students to support a safe and caring environment
- Maintain confidentiality
- Provide patient and caring support for students with learning and/or behaviour challenges
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a post-secondary certificate in child care/development education assistant or behaviour management
- Other combinations of related education and experience may also be considered
- Reliable and dependable
- Standard First Aid Certificate (or ability and willingness to pursue certification within a prescribed timeline)
- Child CPR considered an asset
- Ability to establish trust and rapport with students
- Competency to support student use of technology (e.g. comfortable using a laptop)
- Ability to manage situations of conflict
- Ability to respond appropriately to challenging behaviours from students
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Alert and responsive to situations of risk
- Physical ability to lift and carry classroom learning materials and to bend stoop twist stand walk and sit frequently.
