Job Summary

Job Title Director of Teaching and learning

Reports to: Superintendent

Supervises: Curriculum Administrative Assistant Full ReleaseTLC Teachers

Department:Administration

Position Purpose

Under general supervision of the superintendent to develop implement direct supervise and coordinate the curriculum and instructional programs and to develop and implement the district-wide professional development programs consistent with the district goals as well as applicable laws.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Follows the guidelines for Iowa Standards for School Leaders.
  • Directs the implementation of the Iowa Professional Development Model.
  • Develops implements and oversees the school districts curriculum and instruction programs in accordance with district goals and objectives state and national standards as well as applicable laws.
  • Plans coordinates and directs the professional development program and activities in the district promoting a focus on student learning and professional growth for certified staff.
  • Serves as district administrator for the Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) program.
  • Interprets evaluates and analyzes student assessment and program evaluation results for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement in the district.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of effective and efficient assessment systems and data collection processes that provide a record of baseline measures and track longitudinal trends.
  • Works with administrators and classroom teachers to develop programs and incorporate practices and technology that help students of differing abilities and interests to achieve high standards including Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
  • Works with administrators and teachers to develop and implement extended day and summer school programs.
  • Works with administrators and teaching staff to coordinate professional staff recognition.
  • Communicates the latest developments in curriculum and innovative instructional programs to improve student achievement.
  • Acts as a resource person in the development and implementation of administrative practices policies and procedures for the district.
  • Develops and directs the School Improvement Advisory Committee.
  • Directs the development and management of state and federal grant proposals and budgets.
  • Plans compiles and manages budgets.
  • Implements and monitors federal and state requirements and regulations pertaining to instructional programs professional development and curriculum standards.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars workshops or professional meetings or by conducting research.
  • Attends/supports extra- and co-curricular activities.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as specified by the superintendent.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of K-12 school curriculum and concepts in multiple areas including regular and special education as well as elementary middle and high school levels.
  • Implements best practices in administration program evaluation and staff supervision.
  • Utilizes data information systems data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Directs the on-going instructional programs for the district providing for innovative programs and modifications to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Plans organizes and coordinates projects work and training related to the implementation and supervision of the K-12 instructional programs for the district.
  • Applies contemporary curriculum frameworks and current national and state standards for student learning.
  • Prepares verbal or written communications such as presentations reports memoranda letters grant proposals curriculum documents etc.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students staff parents community and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Utilizes computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Organizes multiple tasks within conflicting time restraints.
  • Engages in self-evaluation with regard to leadership performance and professional growth.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile

  • Masters degree in school administration required.
  • Evaluator endorsement (190).
  • Additional graduate work related to areas of responsibilities highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

Bending carrying climbing lifting driving pushing pulling reaching sitting standing and walking.

Working Conditions

Varied.

Terms of Employment

260 day work year with salary and benefits recommended by administration and established annually by the board.



Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy 303.6 Administrator Evaluation.

FLSA Status

Exempt.
