About this Job

This position is for a full-time 12-month unclassified in-person faculty position to provide oversight of the Culinary Arts programs at David Wade Correctional Center.
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or related discipline with three (3) years of work experience OR
  • Associates Degree with five (5) years of in the culinary industry is required.
  • Experience at the Management/Supervisory level.
  • Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certification or the ability to certify within 12 months of employment.
  • Valid Louisiana Drivers License.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment criminal background and drug screen as required as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear and handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as but not limited to personal computer calculator copier and fax machine.
  • Must be able to travel to other instructional sites to provide oversight of multiple culinary programs.
  • Ability to occasionally liftor carry up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be capable of sitting in stationary position for 50% or more of time.
  • Must be capable of walking standing bending for 40 % or more of time.

Job Specification

This position will instruct culinary arts courses work collaboratively with other instructors in planning instructional strategies for all students and provide oversight of Culinary Arts programs at David Wade Correctional Center.

Job Duties and Other Information

  • Teaching introductory and advanced courses in the Culinary Arts program.
  • Utilizing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to promote students critical thinking skills.
  • Using teaching strategies to promote student success and retention.
  • Using new technologies in the classroom as appropriate to facilitate learning.
  • Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students consistent with course objectives.
  • Evaluating students on comprehension and performance on practical techniques and providing career and academic advising for students.
  • Advising students regarding their grades and progress in the course(s).
  • Meeting all scheduled classes within the appropriate timeframe.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to facilitate students learning needs.
  • Submitting syllabi grades attendance and other reports by established deadlines.
  • Attending and participating in college-wide division department and program meetings and activities.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
  • Remaining current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Adhering to department and college policies standards and procedures.
  • Report to Bossier campus during course breaks at David Wade Correctional Center.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
