The School of Sciences & Humanitiesat Wentworth Institute of Technologyinvites applications for a part-time instructorto teach ECON 4200 Technology and Economic Developmentin Spring 2026.


This 4-credit in-person coursemeets Mondays and Wednesdays 1:002:45 p.m.on Wentworths Boston campus.

Course Description:

This course examines the relationship between technological innovation and economic development in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students analyze how advances in energy health agriculture infrastructure and communication technologies have shaped economic opportunity and human well-being around the world. Case studies highlight the ways technology can expand access to resources improve equity and foster sustainable development while also considering social environmental and ethical trade-offs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degreein Economics Anthropology Development Studies Technology & Society International Studies or a closely related social-science field(PhD or ABD preferred).

  • At least one yearof college-level teaching or professional training in economics development or technology policy.

Professional or Research Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in applied or international development innovation economics or the analysis of technologys social and economic impacts.

  • Familiarity with global development data sources(e.g. World Bank UNDP OECD) and ability to translate empirical findings into accessible evidence-based discussions.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams or community partners on technology-driven development initiatives is desirable.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Ability to teach economic concepts through real-world applications connecting theory to engineering design and social innovation.

  • Commitment to balanced non-partisan instructionthat equips students to evaluate policy and development strategies using data and critical reasoning rather than ideology.

  • Strong communication skills and an inclusive discussion-oriented teaching stylesuited to interdisciplinary majors.

Position Details:

At this time the university is unable to sponsor applicants for H-1B visas.

Adjunct faculty compensation varies based on instructional mode (lecture or lab) number of course credits and program. The minimum adjunct rate is $1365 per credit.
