The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology is seeking to fill two 9-month Teaching Faculty I positions for the Fall 2026 semester. The personnel hired for these positions will perform under the supervision of the Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology. The Department welcomes applicants who can contribute to the department through teaching mentoring and professional service.
Work will be primarily performed on the UW-Milwaukee campus. After the initial training period there may be the option to work partially remote with supervisor approval.
Teach four courses per semester during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic year performing all relevant course-related tasks. These classes will be a mix of in-person and online depending on departmental needs.
Interact with students in the capacity of course instructor as well as facilitate professional preparation through course meetings/materials.
Support the general curriculum by teaching required courses and special topics courses. The courses assigned each semester will be determined by the Chair of the Department.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology is one of two departments within the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare which along with the Schools of Education and Information Studies is housed within the College of Community Engagement & Professions. Together these three schools seek to develop informed engaged and empathetic professionals who are prepared to excel in their professional lives and to enrich their communities. Masters degree in criminal justice criminology or a related area from an accredited University. A JD degree may meet this qualification should the individual have prior teaching experience.
Demonstrate the ability to teach a range of criminal justice courses (e.g. introduction to criminal justice criminological theory introduction to criminal courts introduction to corrections undergraduate capstone) to support department needs.
Applicants must also meet at least one of the following three criteria:
Minimum of three years of experience teaching college-level courses in criminal justice criminology or a closely related field;
Minimum of three years of experience working in the criminal justice system or with populations relevant to the criminal justice system; and/or
Holds a Ph.D. (or is ABD) in Criminal Justice Criminology or a related field.
Prior experience teaching criminal justice courses with evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness.
Prior experience or evidence of ability to teach online asynchronous courses.
Prior experience or evidence of ability to teach graduate-level courses.
