JOB DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Overnight Housing Supervisor

Employment Classification: Full Time; Salary; Exempt (Tuesday-Saturday 6PM-2:30AM)

Reports to: Manager of Housing

Department: Programs


Program Summary:

Our multi-site Housing programs serve young adults (18-25) utilizing a trauma informed harm reduction approach to help youth attain life skills and self-sufficiency based on their individualized goals. The program aims to provide safety and shelter while promoting the self determination of youth experiencing homelessness including those who are unstably or unsafely housed while considering their identity past experiences or system involvement.


Our Youth Connected Program includes a foster family agency school dormitory and mental health services in coordination with government agencies and collaborative partners. The setting is a family-style school dormitory for foster youth 7th-12th grade with medical behavioral academic and /or mental health needs.

Requirements

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Supervises and manages overnight staff including assigning general work duties and responsibilities scheduling overnight staff to ensure proper coverage at all sites.
  • Provides observations consultation and training to overnight program staff.
  • Understand the needs of each program and ensure that youth and young adults have support during the overnight hours particularly during any urgent/emergency situation.
  • Able to complete the tasks of overnight staff (maintenance of facility inventory and ordering of supplies food preparation supporting with urgent transportation needs safety planning and bed checks etc.)
  • Support the implementation of the programs treatment planning including reviewing case documentation and other documents prepared and submitted by staff.
  • Reviews program data and is responsible for the accuracy and reporting of incidents according to standard reporting guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with local contract or licensure requirements for the program.
  • Able to pivot quickly based on the needs of each program.
  • Additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.


Knowledge Skill and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree preferred OR 4-8 years equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 4 years experience with increased responsibility in the human services field higher education working with homeless transitional age youth current and former foster youth counseling or relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years direct supervisory experience of personnel.
  • Ability to think creatively and assess for system improvements.
  • Ability to hire manage and develop people.
  • Ability to hire qualified overnight staff who demonstrate reliability empathy and the ability to work effectively with youth who have experienced trauma homelessness or system involvement.
  • Provide consistent support to help overnight staff to ensure the safety stability and growth of residents during evening and overnight hours.
  • Ability to set clear measurable expectations for overnight staff performance including resident engagement documentation and facility oversight.
  • Promotes teamwork communication and a sense of belonging within the overnight shift recognizing the unique challenges of overnight work.
  • Identifies strengths and builds staff capacity through individualized coaching and development opportunities
  • Manage with data.
  • Develop and maintains effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Takes initiative and works autonomously.
  • Understands contracts and grants and how to execute on service deliverables
  • Working knowledge of how to manage a program budget.
  • Ability to manage a crisis and deploy resources as needed.
  • Possess a valid California drivers license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Position requires DMV clearance.

    Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

    Transitional Housing Sites: Sites include two story homes and apartments with stairs with no elevator access.


    Youth Connected: Family-style multi-level dormitory for foster youth and probation youth 7th-12th grade with medical behavioral mental health needs and the potential for verbal and physical threats. Supervisor is subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally inside conditions frequently with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The work includes constant interruptions in an environment of moderate to high noise level.

    • Supervisor must be able to safely drive vehicles transporting one or more youth in an urgent situation with potential for heavy prolonged traffic (more than one hour each way).
    • Frequent carrying up to 25 pounds.
    • Frequent bending stooping twisting turning and squatting.
    • Frequent climbing of stairs (in a three-story dormitory)
    • Normal or corrected vision needed for driving supervision of youth observation of discrete skills and documentation.
    • Normal or corrected hearing to ensure proper supervision and dorm safety.
    • Normal sense of smell to detect youth hygiene issues and environmental safety issues.
    • Normal ability to speak to teach skills give feedback discuss strategies and converse on telephone.
    • Work occasionally requires exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
    • Position will require use of personal vehicle.
    • Modification to work schedule may be made based on needs of the Foundation (including but not limited to mandatory daytime training or managerial meetings).
