Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to join our development team specializing in PLC testing and implementation in a lab environment.
This role is perfect for a hands-on technician with expertise in industrial automation control systems and PLC programming. The ideal candidate will be responsible for testing troubleshooting and implementing PLC programs to ensure reliable and efficient automation solutions for marine energy applications.
Key Responsibilities:
PLC Testing & Implementation
- Develop test and implement PLC programs for automation and control systems focusing on marine applications
- Write and debug structured text and function block diagrams using PLC software B&R Automation Studio
Lab-Based Testing & Validation
- Conduct rigorous testing of PLC programs including simulation emulation and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- Execute test plans to validate PLC functionality performance and compliance with safety standards
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and collaborate with teams during on-site commissioning
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure PLC programs and automation systems meet maritime standards
- Work with certification bodies and internal teams during design reviews inspections and compliance testing
Troubleshooting & Optimization
- Diagnose and resolve PLC-related issues in lab and field environments
- Optimize PLC programs for performance reliability and energy efficiency
- Performfailure mode analysis and implement corrective actions
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain detailed technical documentation including PLC code test reports and operational manuals
- Provide training and support to junior technicians on PLC programming and testing best practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation processes and tool
Required Qualifications:
- Technical degree or vocational training in Electrical Engineering Automation Mechatronics or a related field
- 3 years of hands-on experience in PLC programming testing and implementation preferably in marine or industrial automation
- Proficiency in PLC software
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems
- Knowledge of industrial standards
- Proven ability to troubleshoot test and commission automation systems in a lab or field setting.
We think you should have
- Experience with hybrid or electric propulsion systems and energy management in marine applications
- Understanding of cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems.
- Experience with version control systems for managing PLC code.
