Job Description:
We are seeking a highly analytical and versatile Director Strategic Research and Analytics. Reporting to the VP of Enterprise Optimization and Strategy this role will serve as a key foundation of our segment strategy team and lead our market research competitive intelligence and strategic analysis function. This role will oversee development of data-driven insights that inform campaign strategies portfolio shaping strategic planning and other executive decisions.
The ideal candidate has deep quantitative and qualitative research expertise within the U.S. aerospace and defense industry combined with strong strategic and business acumen. They must be able to interpret and translate complex information into concise insights for executive leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Lead team developing market research segmentation and forecast of various US and international defense markets across all major services and domains.
- Research competitor strategies relative market positions and new technology entrants.
- Develop and maintain a framework for continuous monitoring of key environmental (customer technology competitive etc.) trends.
- Collect maintain and analyze internal financial and strategy metrics as required for portfolio shaping.
- Support strategic planning efforts through target market analyses and long-term projections.
- Develop and maintain a repository for collected data models and insights.
- Provide best-in-class data analytics and visualization methods across the strategy enterprise.
- Source and manage consultants as needed to supplement internal research efforts.
- Regularly synthesize and deliver insights in executive-level products and presentations.
- Manage develop and mentor a small team of strategy/market analysts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business Economics Finance Engineering Data Analytics or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 15 years professional experience in market or competitive research strategy consulting or corporate strategy.
- Understanding of various US defense markets (e.g. ISR C-UAS UUVs) acquisition processes and budgets (POMs FYDP PBs).
- Proficiency in MS Office tools including high-level Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI; Python/R a plus.
- Familiarity with defense news sources (e.g. Defense News Aviation Week Breaking Defense).
- Strong experience using defense market tools and databases (e.g. Janes DACIS Bloomberg Government Federal Procurement Data System/FPDS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative rigor balanced against strong strategic and business acumen
- Demonstrated ability to condense complex information into C-suite level insights.
- Demonstrated experience leading team members and working collaboratively with stakeholders and peers.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Masters Degree or MBA in related field.
- Knowledge of L3Harris platforms products markets and technologies.
- Prior experience in defense business development strategy or capture.
- Financial and business case modeling experience.
- Experience in M&A target qualification and analysis.
- Executive-level presentation skills.
- Experience with global defense markets and budgets namely Canada U.K. Australia Taiwan Korea Middle East and US allies.
- DoD Clearance.
