Our client a leading international clearing and forwarding business is seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Export Controller to join their team in Montague Gardens Cape Town.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Must have experience in framing customs entries
- Grade 12 (essential); SDS and/or Freight Forwarding qualification (advantageous)
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Clearing & Forwarding (Ocean Freight Export)
- CargoWise system experience (essential)
- Strong knowledge of Incoterms export tariffs and customs clearance processes
- Familiarity with third-party regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent client service and proactively communicate delays or issues
- Manage the timely dispatch and tracking of cargo
- Accurately process data and documentation within CargoWise in a paperless environment
- Liaise with internal teams (Brokerage Transport Warehouse) and external stakeholders (Shipping Lines Customs Third Parties)
- Ensure customs clearance readiness and full documentation compliance
- Secure release of equipment at least 3 working days before stack dates
- Manage costs: ensure accurate billing job costing and profitability
- Maintain up-to-date CargoWise status reports (minimum 3x per week or per client SOP)
- Resolve queries professionally and within agreed timelines
- Arrange cargo insurance and handle claims where necessary
- Participate in team meetings SOP compliance and continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service orientation
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Confident communicator (verbal & written English)
- Basic financial understanding (debits/credits)
- Proficient in MS Office especially Excel
- Ability to manage high volumes and perform under pressure
- Team player who can also work independently
- Organised adaptable and proactive in a changing environment
