Job Summary

The Applied Analytics team is seeking an innovative Data Scientist to support data collection and integrity within the Temperate Hub. This role combines expertise in data science agriculture remote sensing image analysis and machine learning to drive innovation in data capture.

You will support data integrity across the Temperate Hub by developing and validating new data acquisition methods for multiple crops in North America and Europe and will act as a bridge between domain and technical experts to implement novel digital phenotyping methods.

Accountabilities:

  • Partner with Germplasm Development and cross-functional teams to streamline data flows leverage diverse data assets across multiple crops and recommend technology investments.
  • Test emerging phenotyping technologies and lead innovation through the optimization of high-throughput phenotyping (HTP) protocols for multi-trait capture and integration of multiple data sources.
  • Identify data needs and gaps and provide recommendations for enhancing the Temperate Hub data strategy.
  • Design and develop machine learning models and scalable workflows for data collection trait prediction and image processing in collaboration with Temperate Hub breeding teams and global Digital R&D teams to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Consistently document and communicate findings to stakeholders to drive data-driven decision-making and innovation in data collection and modeling approaches.

Qualifications :

  • PhD in Plant Breeding Bioinformatics Computational Biology Computer Vision Remote Sensing or related field or Masters degree with proven experience in commercial or academic agricultural settings.
  • Technical understanding of commercial plant breeding and germplasm development.
  • Experience with phenotyping methods geospatial and remote sensing technologies image processing and computer vision.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning frameworks and libraries for image processing.
  • Proficient programming skills in R and/or Python.
  • Familiarity with SQL version control workflows software reproducibility tools and cloud-based development environments.
  • Experience with visualization tools (R Shiny Tableau etc.) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific data analysis and modeling with biological systems.
  • Experience with plant breeding quantitative genetics and phenotypic data analysis.
