About us

The Labour Leaders Office (LLO) supports the Labour Leader and members of Parliament in their parliamentary duties by providing a range of professional timely accurate and high-quality political services advice and support. The office is funded through the Parliamentary Service.

This includes communications services (written printed and digital) press secretaries advisory events and operational support and services to MPs. The office provides overall management and financial oversight of Parliamentary Services funding for the party.

About the role

As a Designer you will provide a wide range of in-house graphic design services to Labour Members of Parliament. Services include developing MP publicity material and managing the print production process as well as creating high-impact graphics for social media channels.

A snapshot of some of your daily responsibilities include:

  • Provide graphic design services to the Labour Party Leader and Labour MPs.
  • Undertake design work across multiple and complex projects for print and digital collateral ensuring work is of a high standard in alignment with Labours brand standards and audience appropriate.
  • Create impactful social media content working with the wider digital team
  • Responsible for the overall design production from concept to end-product delivery on time and within budget.
  • Manage print production provide advice and manage the Publicity sign-off process.
  • Ensure design requests are completed to a high standard in a timely manner and ensure the client is keep informed of progress.
  • Provide brand guardianship for the Labour Partys Parliamentary publicity.
  • Develop appropriate client management processes and suitable support material.
  • Manage design files so that they are easily accessible and the filing system is maintained

Qualifications/experience

  • 2-4 years of graphic design experience as a professional designer with a strong portfolio of previous work.
  • Understanding of the social media landscape and what works.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-performance environment prioritise and manage conflicting deadlines across multiple projects which may include individual project coordination.
  • High level of expertise in Adobe Creative Suite Software (in particular InDesign Illustrator Photoshop).
  • Ability to work autonomously with multiple clients on multiple projects with competing work demands.
  • Recognised tertiary qualification in graphic design.
  • Experience with working on MacOS
  • An understanding of the political landscape and the machinery of Government.

Employees are employed on an events based agreement with your employment linked to the Leader of the Labour Party. This role is based at the Parliamentary precinct in Wellington for 24 hours per week.
