Job Summary

Overview and Responsibilities

The WisTech Open Instructional Design Librarian supports the efforts of open educational resources (OER) across the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). For more information about WisTech Open visit position may be based anywhere within the state of Wisconsin to support the OER initiatives of the WTCS. Depending on the candidates location the role has the potential to be fully remote with minimal travel required for essential in-person meetings. If the selected candidate resides within Chippewa Valley Technical Colleges (CVTC) 11-county district the position will adhere to CVTCs remote work policy guidelines. Work placement remote and on-site is determined based upon the needs of the College and is subject to CVTC remote work policy and specific department workplace expectations.

The WisTech Open Instructional Design Librarian integrates expertise in instructional design open education and library science to support the development of high-quality accessible open educational resources (OER) across the Wisconsin Technical College System. This position focuses on embedding learning theory and instructional integrity into OER projects while ensuring copyright compliance metadata quality and discoverability across platforms. The role serves as a strategic consultant and hands-on practitioner in course design open licensing repository curation and educational technology integration offering guidance to faculty librarians and designers throughout the system.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty developers/subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure OER projects are instructionally sound aligned with learning outcomes and meet accessibility standards.
  • Consult on and help structure OER projects within Pressbooks and other platforms incorporating active learning and UDL principles.
  • Identify and suggest openly licensed or public domain materials that support program objectives and meet faculty needs.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of open licensing copyright and citation standards to review and correct attribution practices in course materials.
  • Evaluate digital tools (e.g. annotation platforms AI-integrated tools accessibility checkers) to support faculty adoption of scalable inclusive course materials.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to determine how technology can enhance content and meet learner needs.
  • Lead or co-lead professional development sessions workshops and consultations related to instructional design copyright and OER integration.
  • Stay informed on trends in instructional technology library publishing workflows and open pedagogy to inform statewide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with statewide librarians instructional designers and teaching and learning centers to advance the adoption of open practices.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the WTCS OER Repository.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors team members and stakeholders.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to meet project goals and deadlines.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication data collection and decision making including but not limited to Microsoft Office Outlook Word and Excel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Library and Information Science Educational Technology Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years experience in academic libraries or instructional design settings preferably involving OER or online education.
  • Experience designing curating or supporting accessible course materials using UDL and WCAG guidelines preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of copyright Creative Commons licensing and instructional technology tools (LMS Pressbooks H5P etc.) preferred.
  • Experience working at an academic (higher education) library setting or as an instructional designer preferred.
