The Louisiana Works is seeking an OSHA Occupational Safety Consultant to join the Office of Workers Compensation. The Office of Workers Compensation Administration (OWCA) in Louisiana oversees the enforcement and administration of workers compensation laws aiming to support early return-to-work efforts and improve workplace safety. The department manages disputed claims conducts hearings reviews medical treatment disputes and investigates fraud through collaborative efforts like the GAME ON task force. The OWCA also provides OSHA consultation services to high-risk industries while Records management maintains detailed records and reporting systems including electronic submissions of injury reports. Additionally OWCA conducts financial audits and ensures compliance among self-insured employers and insurance carriers. OWCA does not process individual workers compensation claims or issue benefit payments. They also do not help injured workers with the claims management.
TheOSHA Safety Consultant Trainee / OSHA Occupational Safety Consultant will make recommendations to the OSHA Safety & Health Supervisor/Manager to facilitate and implement effective safety and health management systems for the employers of the State of Louisiana Special emphasis is given to employers who are listed by the federal government as high-hazard industries based on their occupational exposure illness and injury rates and on employers who by virtue of their Experience Modifier Rate are classified as At Risk Employers.

Job Duties:
Conduct walk-around inspections of worksites; review evaluate and analyze safety and health programs and management systems; inspect machine and equipment operations environmental conditions work practices and processes protective devices and equipment and safety procedures through the use of materials process inventories and direct reading of instruments when necessary.
Schedule and record visits to employer.
Manage case files and ensure timely submission of reports. Manage correspondence including employer abatement responses extension requests and requests for information. Perform data entry requirements into the appropriate federal and state information systems.
Prepare professional written reports to employers. Organize and consolidate documentation pertinent to case files. Ensure that all hazards identified are covered in the written report of hazards.
Determines correction of hazards and program deficiencies identified in previous visits. Determines an employers qualifications for exemption under the guidelines of the federal Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).
