Job Summary

The Geographic Information System Technician supports asset data management by collecting entering editing and maintaining data within the enterprise GIS system. The technician travels to the field as necessary for data enhancement projects and collaborates with stakeholders across all departments to support their initiatives by creating geospatial information products as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Researches verifies and corrects asset information from various data sources across the company both in digital and hard copy formats (e.g. as-builts alignment sheets job books reports) for entry into the enterprise geodatabase.
  • Travels to field locations as needed to collaborate with field personnel on data collection initiatives and other projects.
  • Conducts high-quality data editing in accordance with established standards within the UPDM APR/UN solution framework.
  • Inputs data obtained from as-built survey deliverables into the UPDM enterprise geodatabase.
  • Creates information products including project-specific maps presentation slides reports and data exports for both internal and external clients.
  • Collaborates with various departments and disciplines to address their GIS needs.
  • Seeks opportunities to apply GIS in innovative ways within the company.
  • Assists senior GIS staff as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Skilled in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experienced in editing data within a geodatabase.
  • Familiar with editing pipeline data using ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing ArcGIS Utility Network and/or linear referencing systems (preferred).
  • Knowledgeable in the UPDM data model (preferred).
  • Experienced with GPS units (preferred).
  • Strong critical thinking skills capable of navigating ambiguity and solving problems.
  • Works effectively as a team player and contributes to group efforts.
  • Communicates professionally and maintains positive relationships with all colleagues.
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative to complete tasks that support team objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy in daily tasks and projects.
  • Meets established deadlines for assignments and projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service abilities.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Maintains a positive outlook and is eager to learn and adapt to changing priorities.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree or higher in GIS geography geospatial science applied technologies or closely related field or 2 years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Certifications:

  • None required

Physical Demands and Hazards for Office Employees:

This position requires prolonged periods of sitting frequent computer use occasional lifting of office supplies and may involve travel.
