This Damage Prevention Specialist II is an intermediate level role within the Damage Prevention team which serves as the point of contact for the service territory for all excavation damage on natural gas distribution pipelines. The incumbent effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments. May receive instructions and guidance on unusual or complex problems and knows when to get others involved.

This position also serves as the point of contact for the service territory for all excavation damages on natural gas distribution pipelines. The position is responsible for educating stakeholders and ensuring safe digging practices are utilized. This may require incident investigations resolution of disputes presentation of safe digging practices etc.

This position will be in the Ohio service territory and report to Cleveland E55th Street Center.

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for the collection tracking and real-time reporting of damage data resulting from 1st 2nd and 3rd party dig-ins to Dominion Energys infrastructure.
  • Review damage investigations to assure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Monitor workload and performance of Pipeline Integrity prevention and mitigative activities to ensure compliance with federal state and local authorities.
  • Monitors and controls a process to ensure excavations in close proximity to transmission or storage facilities is observed.
  • Initiates investigation of unreported excavations found by aerial surveillance or leak survey
  • Coordinates damage prevention in an assigned geographic location.
  • Acts as key contact with state One-Call centers to resolve performance complaints from 3rd party excavators regarding line locating and aerial surveillance performance.
  • Investigates damage incidents and monitors performance.
  • Interacts with local emergency response agencies including fire department police departments sheriff departments 911 centers government agencies neighborhood associations and schools on behalf of the company in an effort to resolving performance and billing problems.
  • Attends damage prevention council meetings and actively participates in community events to ensure damage prevention is a top priority.
  • Assists with identifying outside contractors and participates in negotiation processes for price and service of contractors
  • Acts as intermediary between field supervisors and contractors on damage prevention work.
  • Reviews and analyzes performance data to identify best practices and standardize processes
  • Oversight of Locate Ticket Risk Model and Ticket Management system.
  • Maintain accurate data to be utilized in the Ticket Management Risk Modeling software.
  • Assist in identifying negligent excavators and facilitate any state damage prevention enforcement procedures
  • Develop coordinate and conduct periodic Locator Training/Recognition for line locators in assigned gas service territory
  • Works with Operations to coordinate locate contractors and their contracts
  • Must have valid drivers license and be able to drive
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelors Degree and 3 years directly related experience or
  • Associates Degree and 5 years of directly related experience or
  • High school diploma and 7 years of directly related experience
  • Directly Related Experience includes: Utility locating construction/safety management utility construction/design experience survey quality control/assurance field inspections field operations or facilities management.


Additional Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Skills: verbal written and interpersonal communication; strong computer skills; Analytical skills to identify trends analyze data identify process improvement opportunities and monitor activity and performance.
  • Abilities: effectively interact with customers; teaming; detail oriented; Ability to manage multiple activities resources and time to achieve results and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of: gas transmission and distribution system and activities; safety procedures within gas transmission and distribution operations and ability to communicate standards; applicable government codes and regulations.
  • Physical attributes to perform essential function of the job: walking climbing stooping bending and prolonged standing.
  • Must have valid drivers license and be able to drive


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree (Business Engineering or Construction/Engineering Technology) and 5 years directly related experience
  • 3 years excavation damage prevention experience or utility locating experience
  • 3 years of Natural Gas Distribution/Transmission pipeline experience

Physical Requirements (Include but are not limited to):
