Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Landman with strong Held by Production (HBP) expertise and in-depth knowledge of New Mexico oil and gas operations. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in title research lease maintenance ownership verification and negotiations with mineral and working interest owners. This position requires a high level of technical skill attention to detail and the ability to manage complex HBP acreage and leasehold positions efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze and interpret HBP leasehold positions to ensure compliance with lease terms and operational requirements.
Conduct title research and ownership verification through public records courthouses and state databases.
Review and prepare chain of title division orders and lease agreements.
Work closely with internal teams (land administration legal operations and accounting) to support ongoing drilling and production activities.
Maintain accurate land files maps and records of leasehold status and acreage reports.
Negotiate with mineral owners working interest owners and other stakeholders to secure lease extensions curative instruments or amendments.
Assist in identifying and resolving title defects and leasehold issues impacting HBP acreage.
Support due diligence and acquisition efforts ensuring accuracy in ownership and lease status verification.
Stay current on New Mexico oil and gas regulations pooling/unitization laws and lease maintenance requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Landman in oil and gas with a focus on Held by Production and lease maintenance.
Strong working knowledge of New Mexico title and leasing laws (experience in the Delaware and/or San Juan Basin preferred).
Proven experience handling complex title chains and performing in-depth mineral ownership research.
Proficiency in land management systems and software such as iLand Quorum Enverus or similar platforms.
Excellent communication negotiation and analytical skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
