Summary
- This is a 5-month contract position with a local authority focused on managing a caseload of youth justice cases including both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders in accordance with National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework. The role emphasises a Child First Offender Second approach aiming to reduce offending and re-offending through trauma-informed evidence-based interventions and collaborative case management.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of youth justice cases ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and national standards.
- Deliver effective support and interventions to children and young people to help them complete their orders and lead crime-free lives.
- Use AssetPlus as the primary assessment and planning tool focusing on trauma-informed practice and desistance-based approaches.
- Communicate effectively with children families and internal/external partners to ensure positive outcomes.
- Prepare and present high-quality reports including Pre-Sentence Reports Stand-Down Reports and Referral Order Panel Reports.
- Represent the Youth Justice Team in court and other formal settings.
Experience
- Proven experience in youth justice social work probation or a related field.
- Experience working directly with children and young people particularly those at risk of offending or re-offending.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads and deliver structured interventions.
- Experience in preparing formal reports and presenting in court or similar settings.
Qualification
- A relevant professional qualification in Youth Justice Social Work Probation Criminology or a related field (e.g. DipSW CQSW Youth Justice Degree).
- Evidence of continued professional development in areas such as trauma-informed practice safeguarding or restorative justice is desirable.

- Working hours: 36 hours per week
- Enhanced DBS is required for the role.
