Job Summary:
We are looking for a self-directed energetic person to provide disability-related advocacy in Cayuga County. The Disability Advocate provides education and technical assistance to the community to remove barriers and increase access as well as supports individuals with disabilities one-on-one to obtain needed services and improve quality of life. The advocate will use the Americans with Disabilities Act housing regulations public benefits and other local state and federal laws that affect the rights of individuals with disabilities for the promotion of equal access and opportunity.
Qualifications:
Must have experience working in the disability advocacy field and/or with individuals with disabilities Associates degree preferred General knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent advocacy skills and ability to form collaborative relationships Clean driver license and reliable insured inspected vehicle Computer proficiency
Essential Functions: - Support and empower people with disabilities to make well-informed decisions regarding options for health care housing employment benefits etc.
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals with collecting and completing paperwork appointments phone calls and the navigation of service systems
- Provide information and referral for disability related inquiries
- Build relationships and work with community partners (businesses government agencies community-based organizations) to help remove barriers and further equal access
- Represent ARISE-EFR at outreach events and build a presence in Cayuga County communities
- Visit locations in Cayuga County to assess physical accessibility based on established standards
- Conduct education and awareness presentations to community partners groups and individuals about ARISE-EFR supports and services
- Actively participate in community meetings task forces committees to represent disability perspective and ensure consideration in decision making
- Provide appropriate referrals to other ARISE-EFR services and/or community-based agencies
- Participate in agency generated Action and Education Alerts
- Complete and maintain all participant service record documentation
- Attend staff and team meetings as directed by supervisor
- Provide accurate and timely documentation of activities in ARISE-EFRs database and provide essential information for completion of agency reports to funders
- Uphold code of ethics code of conduct and all ARISE-EFR policies and procedures
- Exercise sound judgment as a matter of course and hold protected health information and other sensitive information in the strictest of confidence in accordance with ARISE-EFR and HIPAA policies
- Consistently represent ARISE-EFR professionally by demonstrating the highest ethical standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Hours: 8:00 am-4:00 pm and Days are M-F Yearly salary is $43160 -$45000 Location is in Auburn NY
