Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Design Engineer responsible for the planning design execution and successful completion of civil engineering components in large-scale projects within the steel industry. These projects focus on iron ore mining beneficiation pelletization and downstream iron & steel making. The incumbent ensures that all work complies with industry standards safety regulations and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage civil engineering activities for projects related to iron ore mining beneficiation pelletization and downstream iron & steel making.
- Develop and review detailed civil engineering designs drawings and specifications for foundations structures roads drainage systems and other related infrastructure.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical electrical structural and environmental engineers to ensure integrated project execution.
- Prepare and review project schedules budgets and resource plans ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
- Ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations including environmental and safety standards.
- Conduct site inspections risk assessments and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues.
- Prepare project documentation including progress reports technical reports and as-built drawings.
- Collaborate with contractors vendors and regulatory authorities.
- Implement best practices for project management cost control and quality assurance.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
Skills and Qualifications
- 7 to 15 years of relevant experience in civil engineering within the steel mining or mineral processing industry.
- Strong experience in iron ore mining projects beneficiation pelletization and downstream iron & steel making.
- Proficient in engineering design software such as AutoCAD STAAD Pro and project management tools.
- In-depth knowledge of civil construction methods materials and standards.
- Experience with project lifecycle from conceptual design to commissioning.
- Familiarity with US regulations codes and standards (OSHA EPA ACI ASTM etc.).
- Excellent communication leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic project environment.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification.
- Experience with environmental and sustainability practices in mining/steel projects.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics geotechnical investigations and foundation engineering.
- Experience with 3D modeling and BIM software.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience with contract negotiation and vendor management.
Education
- Bachelors degree Masters degree in CivilEngineering or related field.
Physical Requirements
- This position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain snow cold heat etc) is to be expected. The office duties will require work in front of a laptop desk and phone.
Salary Range:
- $120000- $150000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
