The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Administrative Services is recruiting

for an Office Assistant 2 located in Juneau!


What you will be doing:

Help connect Alaskans and visitors with the hunting fishing and trapping opportunities across the state by selling licenses permits and tags. Connect with customers and statewide Fish and Game staff to clear up regulation and licensing questions over the phone via email and to walk-in customers. Other responsibilities include entering data for licenses sold from paper books to assist vendors in low internet access zones and rural communities.

The Licensing Section of the Administrative Services team assists the public with navigating rules and regulations put forward to sustain our fishing and hunting opportunities for future generations through the license sales program and record keeping of the licenses sold in accordance with applicable records retention laws.

The working conditions you can expect:

This position is located in the Juneau ADFG Headquarters building next to the whale statue and Overstreet Park boardwalk which provides ample parking and a great place to walk along the Gastineau Channel during breaks. The building is walking distance to grocery stores restaurants and coffee shops and is a short drive to the downtown area.

The successful candidate can expect to:

  • Interact regularly with other staff from the various divisions within ADFG.

  • Provide the public with specific and detailed information on department regulations when answering licensing calls and emails.

  • Ensure attention to detail when data entering and fulfilling product orders.

  • Clerical: Knowledge of filing typing entering data maintaining records taking shorthand and using and completing forms.

  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

  • Public Service Skills: Addresses customer core needs through actively seeking information and working to understand the customers inquiries in order to provide a response that matches available resources and constraints.

  • Professionalism: Demonstrates a positive attitude courtesy tact and empathy even when handling stressful situations. Able to manage workloads meet deadlines and effectively identify and coordinate priorities.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to take into account the audience and nature of the information to make clear oral and written communication.

A minimum score of 35 words per minute is required on the alpha-numeric keyboarding test.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
High school diploma equivalent means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular drivers license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
