Assistant Dean for IHP in Europe

Salary Range: 70438 EUR to 77310 EUR

SIT seeks an Assistant Dean for IHP in Europe (ADIHP) to be responsible for the development and management of a portfolio of multi-site comparative academic programs across the European region. The Assistant Dean will oversee experiential programming and curriculum; hire and support faculty; coordinate logistics of the programs across locations; manage a cost-effective budgeting process; maintain partnerships with local providers universities and organizations; and ensure the overall quality of the students experience and program delivery from academic operational and student support perspectives.

The Assistant Dean must remain current in their areas of expertise and familiar with in-country issues and practices in higher education. Assistant Deans are expected to be active members of the SIT community giving service to the institution and acting as a thought leader in institutional initiatives.

For compliance with local labor and employment laws and when circumstance warrants the ADIHP will have a local employment contract through an affiliated local entity or as determined by SIT.

Responsibilities

Academic Program Management

• Oversee general management and coordination of a diverse portfolio of programs in collaboration with SITs Office of the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs Office of Global Operations and Office of Student Health Safety and Well-being to ensure alignment with SITs policies and academic standards.

• Facilitate collaboration and communication between multi-country faculty and team members to design and deliver the academic program that meets standards of excellence

• Assemble and lead a motivated team of faculty and staff to manage diverse portfolio of IHP Europe programs effectively.
• Onboard and mentor new faculty/adjunct faculty/ staff in consultation with the Associate Provost Ensure that experiential learning opportunities are integrated into the programs in a coordinated and intentional manner so that readings and classroom-based activities are linked to field-based experiences to support student learning and achievement of course outcomes.
• Follow-up on student evaluations at the conclusion of each program using feedback to refine academic quality and enhance the overall educational experience.
• Establish and maintain a regular cycle of program evaluations including site visits to observe local faculty and evaluate teaching effectiveness and the overall program quality
• Represent IHP Europe and SIT/World Learning at professional and academic conferences.

Student Health and Safety and Well-Being

• Play a critical role in connecting program student support personnel to relevant support services locally and in collaboration with SIT Office of Student Health Safety and Well-Being.
• Ensure program staff are knowledgeable and able to provide care to the students and in consultation with SIT Office of Student health Safety and Well-Being direct them to appropriate resources for emotional and mental health support.
• Coordinate with local teams to maintain up-to-date program contingency plans based on current and reliable information concerning health and safety risks of the local environment.
• Communicate emergency procedures and protocols to student participants program staff and homestay families.
• Ensure consistency and organization of student orientations.
• Provide culturally appropriate strategies and advice to maximize safety and well-being.
• Serve on periodic SIT task forces or learning communities in collaboration with other faculty and staff.

Operations

• Build and sustain relationships with local stakeholders service providers and partner institutions to enhance the programs quality and reputation.
• Manage logistics and program services including accommodations transportation and excursions ensuring they meet SITs educational and operational standards.
• Collaborate with SITs Human Resources Office of Global Operations and Office of the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs to ensure seamless program delivery and operational support while maintaining open communication with SITs global offices by providing detailed updates timely reports and strategic recommendations to enhance operations and program outcomes.
• Serve as in-country entity representative for compliance purposes as required.

Financial Management

• Manage an accurate budget for the portfolio ensuring cost control and resourceful spending in collaboration with SITs Office of Global Operations.
• Oversee financial operations for multiple programs including budgeting expense reporting and vendor contract execution ensuring efficient and transparent financial management.
• Communicate financial needs updates and forecasts to SITs Office of Global Operations.

Additional tasks as assigned

The nature of the ADIHP position is such that they may be called upon during irregular hours to deal with emergencies. Responding to urgent program or student needs off-hours is a regular part of the duties of an Assistant Dean. For the duration of the program the ADIHP must remain reachable by mobile phone on an emergency basis.

Requirements

Experience/Education:

The ideal candidate should have:

• Terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
• 5 years of teaching experience and/or experience in academic administration or the equivalent in international experience
• Demonstrated understanding of field-based interdisciplinary and experiential education and/or critical pedagogy
• Experience teaching US-based college students
• Minimum 3 years of experience living and working in Europe
• Supervisory experience ideally of multi-cultural staff at distant locations
• Articulate in use of oral and written English
• Demonstrated support for SIT/World Learnings mission and values as well as people of varying backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-cultural team
• Proficient in working in a fast-paced virtual environment
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Flexibility to travel at least 30% of the time primarily to program locations but also to SIT meeting sites whether in Vermont at main campus or at Teaching Centers located around the world.
