The Community ServicesDivision (CSD)empowersand supportsresidents schools and local organizations to make thecitymore livablesafeand clean.CSD iscomprisedof threecore service program areas-BeautifySJ Grantmaking for Community Impactand Youth Intervention Services.Overseenbya Deputy Director and two Division Managers there are161full-time equivalent employeesand an operatingbudgetof approximately $52million alongwith various sources including State Federal and other special funds.

TheBeautifySJProgramconductsblight reduction community beautification neighborhood engagementand encampment managementservices.Services include graffiti removal programillegaldumpingprogramneighborhooddumpsterdayprogramneighborhoodlitterprogram recreationalvehiclepollutionpreventionprogramencampmenttrash removal program/abatement cleangatewaysandcash fortrashprogram.

Position Duties

BeautifySJ is currentlyseekingtofill one (1)full-timeMaintenance Worker IIvacancy.


Under general supervision employees in the Maintenance Worker II (MWII) position provide lead direction to small crews engaged in the abatement and response to illegal dumping complaints throughout theCityand provide support to all Beautify SJ programs including the Encampment Trash Program. MWIIs are major contributors to the Departments efforts to provide exceptional service to its residents by working to beautify theCity. Employees are expected to work a five-day per week schedule either Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Individuals in this classification maybe requiredto work alternate work shifts including grave and swing weekends holidays overtime and on-call.


Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Able to work with the unhoused community and in homeless encampments.
  • Working with neighborhood leaders and community based organizations to support beautification efforts in their communities.
  • Assist the Anti-Litter Anti-Graffiti Neighborhood Beautification projects in addition to other blight reduction and beautification projects throughBeautifySJ.
  • Planning work and providing lead direction to and participating in small and large crews engaged in the response and abatement of reported and non-reported illegally dumped materials within public rights-of-way including streets and sidewalks parks trails City owned property and other properties where the City has Right of Entry to address blight issues.

ift carry push and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds or heavier weights in all cases with the use of proper equipment;

Minimum Qualifications

Education:Completion of high school or equivalent (General Educational Development G.E.D. Test or California Proficiency Certificate)


Experience:Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance or repair of streets sewers parks or public facilities or related field.


Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid drivers license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California.
