POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Technician I contributes to the development of a complex geographic database and capital project construction plan creation. Utilizes software applications including AutoCad but not limited to ArcGIS suite and Blue Beam. Ensures consistency and accuracy of data submitted by other government and private agencies through research mapping and analysis of information. Provides exhibits and information of a technical nature to City of Englewood staff City Council the public and area governments. Participates in the preparation of construction plan sets and/or maps for annual infrastructure maintenance projects and other in-house design projects. Provides plan checking and project management assistance.

Reports to: Capital Projects Engineer II

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Research Mapping and Analysis of Information
- Attempts to resolve problems generally of a complex nature such as property line locations boundary disputes and unusual construction permits.
- Prepares visual aids graphic presentations and legal exhibits for use in City Council presentations and Public Hearings.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Organizes paper & digital engineering records scans drawings maintains as-built documents.
- Participates in the preparation of construction plan sets and/or maps for annual infrastructure maintenance projects and other in-house design projects using data obtained from field survey original designs previous drawings sketches or other sources.
- Provides plan checking and project management assistance.
- Performs field visits.
- Assists with in-house survey and staff design efforts.
- Assists city engineering department to monitor and edit Public Works web pages.
- Performs other duties as assigned and required.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education: High School Diploma
Work Experience: Minimum 0-2 years progressive experience in GIS civil engineering technology or land and construction surveying.
Certifications and/or Licensures: AutoCAD operator preferred not required.
Required Drivers License: None
An equivalent combination of education training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
Working knowledge of:
- Land surveying
- AutoCAD drawing setup and plotting and GIS concepts
- Trigonometry geometry algebra and arithmetic
Basic knowledge of road design and general civil construction principles.
Skills and Abilities
Computer Skills Entry-level skills required to operate the AutoCAD software. Entry-level skills needed to work with Windows operating system and Blue Beam. Ability to achieve beginner level skills in ArcGIS.
Communication Strong skills needed to respond to public inquiries and to collaborate with engineers for plan development and council presentations. Also needed to serve on a variety of committees.
Mathematical Strong skills needed for surveying and cartographic calculations. Also needed to use a scientific calculator.
Ability to operate large format color plotter.
WORKING CONDITONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment requiring sitting for extended periods of time and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual physical capabilities to perform work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily).
HOURLY WAGE
$22.31 - $33.47/hour
