PositionSummary:AParaprofessionalsroleistoincreasethequalityofinstructiontostudents by performing any instructional or non-instructional tasks required under the supervision of a certified professional (teacher therapist principal and supervisor). Paraprofessionals are not responsible for the design direction or evaluation of the teaching/learning process.

Twocategories:

  1. Center-BasedParaprofessionals

  2. DistrictParaprofessionals

AIUSchool-BasedParaprofessionals:

  1. ClassroomParaprofessionals:areassignedtoonespecificbuildingandaspecific classroom within that building

    1. BuildingParaprofessionals:canbeplacedinupto3specificassignmentspersemester.

    2. BuildingProfessionalsAtLarge:canbeplacedinanyassignmentwithinaspecificbuilding on a daily basis.

    3. Itinerant Paraprofessionals: can be assigned to one of the three AIU operated schools each day and are assigned responsibilities by the principal each the event thereisnotaneedinthatbuildingthatdaytheprincipalcanassignthemtoanalternate AIU operated school for a day or extended assignment as needed.

    4. Pool Paraprofessional At-Large:A Certified Pool Operator Exam and Allegheny County Certification and State Pesticide Test and CPR/First Aid Certification are required. The training and tests will be provided by the AIU.

District Paraprofessionals:

Include all Paraprofessionals employed in other locations including school district classrooms Preschool Early Intervention and Speech/Language classrooms.

  1. ClassroomParaprofessionals:areassignedtoonespecificclassroom

  2. Paraprofessional At-Large:can be assigned to another one of the AIU operated classrooms inthebuildingor alternative location for a day or extended assignment as needed.

AllParaprofessionalsfollowthesamedutiesprescribedinthisjobdescription.

DutiesandResponsibilities:

  1. Assistschildrentoandfromthebusatarrivalanddeparturetimeswhenprogramand types of children warrant.

    1. Facilitatespersonalcareservicesasneededtoassiststudentswithactivitiesofdaily living necessary for comfort and well-being including toileting of children.

    2. Preparesandoperatesinstructionalequipmentandmaterialsincludingbutnotlimitedto: audio/visual equipment iPad Smartboard Xerox copies lamination computer documents/printingvisualaidsartworketc.asdirectedbytheteacherand/ortherapist.

    3. Assures that all possible measures are taken to assist a child in the event of an emergencyuntilhelparrives.Thisincludesnotifyingtheimmediatesupervisorand/or supervising administrator immediately.

    4. Maintains good housekeeping and follows program health guidelines in the classroom and diaper changing areas. This includes proper storage of materials supplies and equipment;cleaningchalkboardstablesandchairsasneeded;placingdeskstablesand chairs in proper order etc.

    5. UpdatesattendancerecordsanddatacollectionasprogramsrequireunderAIUPA CertifiedProfessionaldirectionhandlesandmaintainsconfidentialityasitpertainsto special education.

    6. Assistswithfeedingofstudentswhoareunabletofeedthemselves.Inaddition may collect lunch/snack money submit lunch count information and supervise students in the cafeteria as needed.

    7. Assistsstudentsintheuseofteachingdevicessuchasassistivetechnologydevices and computers and other equipment used for individualized instruction.

    8. Participatesinparent/teacherconferences and IEPconferencesasrequested.

    9. Interacts and assists in the supervision of students during work-instructed assignments play activities and emergency drills according to the standards and policiesoftheprograminallenvironmentsthroughouttheschooldaywhileunder the direct supervision of the AIU PA Certified Professional and/orAdministration.

    10. PerformsreinforcementinstructionalservicesasdelegatedbythePACertified Professional including (but not limited to) reinforcing activities in the visual auditory motor and cognitive areas.

    11. Follows and implements IEPs (including behavioral intervention plans) under the directionoftheAIUPACertifiedProfessionalfollowsandreinforcesthebehavioral managementsysteminplaceandassiststheteacherwithstudentswhomayneed physical intervention using accepted procedures (NCI or any other AIUapproved procedures).

    12. Attends training as required for performance of job. This may include but is not limitedtoNCICPRFirstAidConfidentialityUniversalPrecautionsandvarious diagnoses.

    13. Accompaniestheteacherandstudentsonfieldtripsorcommunity-based instruction during the school day.

    14. Performsothereducationallyrelateddutiesassignedbytheteacherand/or Administration.

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma required. (PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate training will be provided by the employer and must be completed within 90 days of hire)

  2. Associates degreeorequivalentnumberofcollegecredits(60)oraPATTAN Paraeducator Certificate preferred.

  3. 1-2yearsexperienceworkingwithchildrenwithspecialneedsstronglypreferred.

  4. TrainingincrisisinterventionCPRandFirstAidpreferred.

  5. Abilitytoworkaspartoftheeducationalteam

  6. Stronginterpersonalskills.

  7. Abilitytospeakclearlyanddistinctly.

  8. Abilitytoprioritizeidentifiedneedsofstudentsbyfollowingdirectivesofclassroom teachers staff and peers as well as the goals of the IEP.

AdditionalRequirements:

  1. CurrentAct114Act34Act151andNSORclearancesarerequiredpriortoanoffer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

  2. SchoolPersonnelHealthRecordandTBTest(FormH511.340)mustbecompletedand received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
