- The Registered Nurse Cardiac Device Specialist for the Cardiac Device Clinic is an experienced and highly skilled Registered Nurse with advanced training in cardiac rhythm management and medical device safety.
- This individual performs independently with Electrophysiology/Cardiology oversight the technical management of implanted Cardiac Electronic Devices known as CIED devices. Management includes cardiac pacemakers ICDs Loop recorders pressure sensor monitors SICDs CRT-P and CRT-D heart failure devices. Essential management includes timely in person interrogations oversight of enrollment and scheduling of remote transmissions basic evaluation and adjustment to programming as indicated by device interrogation or specific physician order.
- Key responsibility includes the ability to troubleshoot basic intermediate and advanced device issues.
Primary Duties
- Responsible for the education and supervision of staff members involved in the care of patients with implanted cardiac devices. Promotes development of necessary skill set for staff members that is essential for a developing comprehensive electrophysiology program.
- Develops and implements CIED policy based on evidence-based practice to include Heart Rhythm Society consensus statement recommendations.
- Manages device patients and their care. Implements treatment plans at a highly developed skill level in collaboration with the physician and other members of the healthcare team.
- Performs ongoing assessment as appropriate utilizing appropriate data sources and documents according to policy.
- Demonstrates advanced and in-depth knowledge and understanding of the device technology the purpose of the device implant expected alteration in clinical condition and the potential device-related cause for patient symptoms.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively and consistently troubleshoot device problems in a wide array and technologically evolving device types.
- Interprets patients presenting clinical condition and abnormal technical findings and communicates in a timely manner to other members of the healthcare team.
- Collaborates with team members to ensure that patient issues are addressed.
- Acts as a patient advocate regarding education and ongoing management.
- Maintains clinical competency by participating in industry supported education self-study and continuing education for maintenance of certification.
- Assesses CIED devices in person or remotely with full interrogation and identification of suboptimal programming abnormal findings and evaluation of arrhythmia type onset and burden.
- Interrogates and reprograms CIED devices throughout medical facility as On-call Device Nurse.
- Data Management and Documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements:
- Graduate of an Accredited RN Nursing Program.
- Recent experience in cardiac rhythm and device management.
- Five or more years as a clinician in a cardiovascular care setting.
- Minimum of two years experience in managing CIED device patients.
- RN licensed and in good standing in the state of Colorado.
- RN BSN required.
Preferred:
- Certification by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners for Certified Cardiac Device Specialist/AP.
