Electronics Manufacturing Facility
Position Summary
The Jr. Manufacturing Engineer supports production operations in an electronics manufacturing environment focusing on SMT and through-hole assembly processes. This entry-level engineering position provides hands-on technical support for daily production while developing expertise in electronics manufacturing processes equipment and quality systems. The role offers growth opportunities to advance into senior engineering responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Production Support (40%)
- Provide daily technical support to production floor operations
- Troubleshoot basic SMT defects (tombstoning bridging insufficient solder)
- Assist operators with machine setup and changeover procedures
- Monitor first article inspections and address initial production issues
- Support production line starts and debug activities
- Document and escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers
- Participate in daily production meetings
SMT Programming & Setup (25%)
- Create and modify basic SMT programs under supervision
- Import CAD/Centroid data into programming software
- Maintain component shape libraries for standard packages
- Set up and verify machine feeders and nozzle configurations
- Optimize simple programs for placement efficiency
- Generate setup sheets and feeder lists for operators
- Validate program changes through first article builds
Process Documentation (15%)
- Develop clear work instructions for assembly operations
- Create visual aids and reference materials for production floor
- Update existing procedures based on process improvements
- Document machine settings and process parameters
- Maintain revision control for manufacturing documents
- Support ISO/AS9100 documentation requirements
Quality & Continuous Improvement (10%)
- Collect and analyze basic production yield data
- Participate in root cause analysis investigations
- Implement approved corrective actions
- Support process improvement projects led by senior engineers
- Track defect trends and report findings
- Assist with internal quality audits
Engineering Support Tasks (10%)
- Review new designs for basic manufacturability concerns
- Support prototype and NPI builds
- Assist with time studies and line balancing analysis
- Help maintain equipment calibration schedules
- Coordinate with suppliers on component packaging issues
- Support ECO implementation on production floor
Required Skill Sets
Educational Requirements
- Minimum: Associate degree in Electronics Technology Manufacturing Technology or related technical field
- Preferred: Bachelors degree in electrical engineering Manufacturing Engineering Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Alternative: Technical certificate with 2 years relevant manufacturing experience
Technical Skills
Essential Technical Knowledge
- Understanding of electronic components and PCB assembly processes
- Basic knowledge of SMT processes (screen printing placement reflow)
- Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and PCB layouts
- Understanding of IPC-A-610 acceptability standards
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for manufacturing
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Clear written communication for procedures and reports
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel
- Comfortable presenting findings to small groups
- Team player who can work across departments
- Patience and professionalism when training operators
