Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students the Program Coordinator independently coordinates and assists in carrying out administrative and programmatic functions for the Dean of Students Office (DOSO). This position serves as the initial point of contact for the processes related to readmission cancellations applications for in-state tuition final exam rescheduling and DOSO marketing. This individual is expected to resolve a wide variety of problems with moderate guidelines and periodically resolve new unusual or difficult problems that require judgment and initiative. Given the nature of this role the Program Coordinator interacts with various campus departments as well as with faculty staff and student guardian/family members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to requests from students faculty/staff and others and aids in solving a wide variety of problems generally related to the functions of the Dean of Students Office often requiring interpretation judgment and the initiative to resolve the issue or refer to the appropriate office.
  • Correspond with students staff faculty and families about processes managed by the Dean of Students Office including Readmission Voluntary Separation Final Exam rescheduling Residency and STELF Loan process.
  • Meets individually with students and families to outline the process for residency/in-state tuition.
  • Assists with programmatic efforts related to the support of students seeking off-campus living options at all UConn campuses.
  • Conducts studies gathers data evaluates information and prepares reports for student programs and services related to work in the Dean of Students Office.
  • Explains and monitors compliance with Connecticut State Statutes on residency rules and University policies and procedures as they pertain to functions of the Dean of Students Office (i.e. residency rules for in-state tuition Readmission Final Exam Rescheduling and Voluntary Separations).
  • Processes and maintains necessary paperwork records and files required to support programs and functions managed in the Dean of Students Office (i.e. Voluntary Separations Readmission Residency and Final Exam Rescheduling).
  • Communicates with other University offices and/or outside agencies to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Assists in providing outreach and support to students on a variety of student life issues including off-campus living and Title IX incidents.
  • Supports the planning and implementation of educational programming to support students in their quest for off-campus living options.
  • Prepares narrative and informational reports about processes related to the work in the Dean of Students Office compiles and organizes information requiring the understanding and evaluation of data sources; may include special projects or extensive reports.
  • Evaluates how services are delivered in their area of focus and recommends plans for improvement.
  • Hire train and supervise student staff to meet department needs.
  • Perform related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree.
  • Three to four years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating administrative functions providing program support working independently and exercising sound judgment.
  • Experience working collaboratively in groups and/or with other departments.
  • Experience working as part of a team and being flexible in prioritizing assigned responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in independently solving problems of varying complexity.
  • Experience exercising independent judgment and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Experience in and awareness of the sensitivity required when interacting with supervising and addressing the needs of a diverse community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Higher Education in Student Affairs Counseling Communications or a related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated experience providing educational programming to groups.
  • Demonstrated experience working with the public in a diverse environment.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time permanent position. Other rights terms and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
