What you will be doing:

  • Serve as the on-site representative for the Contracting Officer ensuring construction complies with plans specs policies and safety standards.
  • Oversee contractor operations inspect work review submittals and maintain detailed project records testing and documentation.
  • Administer complex construction contracts manage project budgets and lead project teams including Engineering Assistants and Technicians.
  • Coordinate with design staff other agencies and stakeholders to resolve issues secure permits and keep projects on track.
  • Mentor and evaluate staff while fostering a safe collaborative work environment through training and regular oversight.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is based in Nome Alaska with our Northern Region Wester District - Construction team.
If you like variety this role has it all. Some days youll be at your desk using computers and project tools to track progress document findings and collaborate with the team. Other days youll be out in the field inspecting sites operating equipment and seeing firsthand how your work improves Alaskas infrastructure.

    in the engineering and transportation world WAQTC stands for the Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction. This is a cooperative organization made up of several western state DOTs (including Alaska DOT&PF) and other agencies. WAQTC develops standardized training testing procedures and certifications for construction materials sampling and testing (things like soils asphalt aggregates and concrete).
    The incumbent must obtain the required WAQTC certification in order to qualify as a WAQTC trainer.

Eight years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering land surveying or architecture of which one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
ABET accredited college or technical school courses in engineering architecture land surveying or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for the non-specific required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelors degree with a major in engineering architecture or land surveying from an institution accredited by ABET may substitute for four years of the non-specific required experience.
