The Library Assistant supports the daily operations of the university library and provides direct service to students faculty staff and community patrons. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that library resources and services are accessible organized and welcoming. The Library Assistant assists patrons in locating and using materials provides basic research and technology support and contributes to maintaining an environment that promotes academic success and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous and professional customer service at service desks assisting patrons with circulation reference and general inquiries.
• Assist students faculty and patrons in locating materials navigating electronic resources and using library equipment.
• Circulate materials by checking items in and out renewing loans processing holds and managing overdue notices.
• Support collection management by shelving books shelf-reading for accuracy and assisting with inventory projects.
• Process new library materials including labeling covering and preparing items for circulation.
• Troubleshoot basic computer printer and copier issues and assist patrons with software applications such as Microsoft Office and internet searches.
• Monitor library spaces to ensure a safe clean and welcoming environment; report facility or equipment issues promptly.
• Assist in opening and closing procedures ensuring security of library facilities and resources.
• Provide clerical and administrative support including answering telephones filing and maintaining records as needed.

Education

• Required:High school diploma or GED.
• Preferred:Associates or Bachelors degree especially in Library Science Education or a related field.
• Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
