Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking aSchool Security Officer (SSO) to join the team at Chancellor High home of the Chargers. The High School Security Officer helps ensure a safe and secure school environment by monitoring student and staff arrival dismissal and daily activities on campus. Responsibilities include patrolling school grounds and facilities enforcing safety rules assisting with investigations and supporting administration in addressing student conduct and security concerns. The officer also participates in safety drills threat assessments and routine building security checks while fostering positive relationships with students staff and visitors.
Essential Job Functions:
Patrols parking lotshallways stairwells restrooms cafeteria remote areas and school
grounds to assure the safety and security of staff students and visitors- Enforces school safety and security rules and regulations
- Monitors the arrival and departure of students and staff to include parent drop off and pick up and bus loading/unloading
- Participates in school safety committee meetings regarding student conduct and threatassessments
- Checks parking permits of students and staff and reports violations to administration
Checks all windows doors and entrances of the building to make certain they are secure and
check for possible fire code violations; reports any physical or mechanical damage on the school premises to building administrationWorks with administration to investigate and report any unusual conditions disturbances or
possible violations of Code of Student ConductWorks with administration to conduct searches of students lockers and vehicles
Works with administration to conduct school security walk-throughs and checks Emergency
Exits inspects Fire Extinguishers reviews Building Evacuation Maps and other safety checks and audits as requiredParticipates in Standard Response Protocol Safety drills; offers feedback to staff and
administration for improvement

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 21 years of age
- Current (valid not expired) Drivers License
- Ability to obtain a Emergency First Aid CPR & AED certification Virginia Department of Criminal Justice (DCJS) compulsory training certification and Mandt training certification within 60 days of hire
Preferred
- Two (2) years of successful full-time experience in law enforcement or building security.
- Currently possess a Department of Criminal Justice (DCJS) School Security Officer Certification
