Lead repair and restore! The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is looking for an Auto Body Shop Supervisor to manage vehicle repairs and ensure our fleet stays on the road safely and efficiently.
The primary purpose of the Auto Body Shop Supervisor is to coordinate the operation of the Auto Body Shop and to provide supervision to the Auto Body Mechanic. This position schedules the work based on the amount of time needed for each job the availability of staff and type and urgency of repair. The Auto Body Shop Supervisor must ensure that repairs are completed in the most efficient manner possible focusing on quality maintenance and repairs and giving maximum attention to safety. He must also ensure that total quality management practices are implemented in the daily operation of the shop to provide the highest level of service possible.The assigned workstation is Troop A Garage in Greenville NC (Pitt County).
Job duties include:
Inspect and repair damaged Highway Patrol vehicles including dents scratches broken glass and structural damage.
Remove and replace damaged body panels (e.g. quarter panels roofs frames) and realign parts to match original specifications.
Repair or replace damaged power accessories (e.g. window motors door locks remote mirrors power seats trunk locks) to restore full functionality.
Repaint vehicles to return the finish to the original appearance and maintain fleet readiness.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices during repair operations.
Plan schedule and assign work for Auto Body Mechanics based on workload urgency and staff availability.
Provide technical guidance training and mentoring to mechanics on repair techniques and processes.
Develop employee performance plans provide feedback and support career development opportunities.
Assist in implementing total quality management practices to ensure high standards of workmanship.
Restore out-of-service vehicles returned to the shop including decal removal antenna/light bar hole repair bumper repair and repainting.
Perform detailing tasks such as sanding buffing and re-decaling to maintain vehicle appearance and readiness.
Prepare repair estimates including parts labor and costs using manufacturer specifications and crash manuals.
Maintain knowledge of current auto body repair practices paint colors and serial plate identification.
Order required parts and materials to support repair operations.
Procure and maintain inventory of parts paint and materials to ensure uninterrupted shop operations.
Reconstruct vehicles from salvaged parts as needed to restore vehicles to service standards.
Perform restoration projects on older vehicles filing cabinets and other department equipment requiring paint or bodywork.
Assist with ad hoc shop projects that require advanced technical skills or creative problem-solving.

Management Preferences (Optional):These skills are not required but managers may choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
Demonstrated experience supervising scheduling and directing work for auto body or vehicle repair staff.
Demonstrated experience repairing restoring and repainting vehicles including replacement of body panels power accessories and collision-damaged parts.
Experience restoring out-of-service or older vehicles including bodywork paint decal application/removal or vehicle detailing.
Experience preparing repair estimates ordering parts and managing inventory in a vehicle repair or body shop environment.
Experience ensuring adherence to safety regulations repair standards and total quality management practices in an automotive or body shop setting.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.
