Job Summary

We are recruiting a PT BME Sports & Engagement Officer to continue the legacy of our BME Sports Project


Job Title EYST BME Sports & Engagement Officer

Hours of Work 21 hours per week (PT) Incl. some evenings & weekends

Salary 13759.2 per annum (22932 full time equivalent)

Tenure 5 Month Fixed contract until 31st March 2026(Starting 1st November extension subject to future funding)

Responsible for Young people & Children aged 11-25 Families and individuals 25

Responsible to EYST Youth Team Lead

Location of Work Main base is Swansea but travel across Southwest Wales region including Swansea Carmarthenshire Neath Port Talbot and Pembrokeshire when required.


Notes

Successful candidate will need to have an enhanced DBS.

Successful Candidate will have to produce Right to Work evidence once offer is made.

Project Overview

The aim of the EYST BME Sports & Engagement Worker is to support ethnic minority people and communities living in and around Swansea and across Southwest Wales to increase their participation in sport and improve their long-term opportunities and health outcomes.

The project is funded by Sports Wales through The West Wales Sports Partnership (WWSP) and the project looks to continue to build on the excellent platform created by this long running project.



Aims of the Post

  1. To deliver the BME Sports Project to ethnic minority people and communities living in and around Swansea/ Southwest Wales
  2. To engage directly with young people and community members and deliver a programme of activities and opportunities to take part in sport outside of school hours including after-school during school holidays and on some weekends.
  3. To engage directly with a range of ethnic minority community groups to inform them about opportunities to take part in sport and to run a quarterly network meeting to keep the information flowing smoothly to community groups.
  4. To meet with and develop partnerships with a range of sporting organisations to identify and maximise outcomes and opportunities for ethnic minority communities and individuals.


Principal Accountabilities and Main Duties



  1. To organise plan and deliver sporting activities with and for a range of community groups ensuring they are run safely and inclusively.
  2. To network reach out and engage widely with a range of community groups developing a clear understanding of their needs and opportunities for sports development.
  3. To develop partnerships with a range of sporting organisations including sports governing bodies attending meetings and events as necessary.
  4. To risk assess and ensure the safe delivery of all project activities.
  5. To facilitate effective feedback and consultation mechanisms for young people and community groups to contribute to project development
  6. Engage with and inform schools and other key statutory and voluntary sector organisations about the project and establish referral pathway.
  7. To ensure the collection entry and return of information as required for monitoring and evaluation with EYST monitoring Framework and CRM System
  8. To take part in training meetings and regular supervision as required
  9. To effectively promote the project using a variety of online social media platforms.
  10. To manage a small budget for project activities
  11. To work within relevant health and safety legislation
  12. To ensure that the project promotes and reflects equality of opportunity and an inclusive approach at all levels
  13. To ensure that Safeguarding and all other relevant policies are implemented
  14. To uphold the confidentiality of information of clients
  15. To ensure administrative and financial systems are effectively maintained
  16. To carry out any other duties that may from time to time be required


Person Specification

Essential

  1. An understanding of the challenges facing People from ethnic minority backgrounds
  2. An understanding of barriers to participation
  3. Passionate for Sport and participation across all skill levels
  4. Willingness to work with External partners and stakeholders
  5. Willingness and ability to travel across Swansea and surrounding counties (Southwest Wales if required)
  6. Good communication and interpersonal skills (working with clients and professionals).
  7. Ability to working with others in a Team
  8. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding including Digital Safeguarding issues.
  9. Self-motivated and organised and with good time keeping skills.
  10. Good IT skills with willingness to learn new skills
