Boston Public Schools (BPS) serves over 48000 children in 123 schools. BPS enrolls over 17000 students identified as English Learner students (ELs) with approximately 3000 ELs with addition BPS enrolls over 10000 students with disabilities with approximately 3000 MLLs with disabilities. We fundamentally believe that schools are the unit of change where our school leadership teams and educators create rigorous supportive and safe environments for every child to reach their full potential. Office of Multilingual Multicultural Education (OMME):
OMME is committed to ensuring BPS students acquire the 21st-century bi-literacy skills and cross-disciplinary knowledge required to succeed in college and/or careers. The Equity & Accountability Team of OMME also provides guidance and support to schools and central administration for legal compliance and equitable access to services. OMME ensures English Learners (ELs) receive the services and programming they need aligned with current research and the BPS vision mission and goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement ML Guidance and Other Policy Documentation through an understanding of federal state and local policies and protocols pertaining to Multilingual Learners; support the OMME Senior Director of Equity and Accountability and team in compiling distilling and transferring that information and knowledge so that complex Multilingual Learner service and program requirements can be easily understood by central and school-based staff which includes the creation of new and the revision of existing guidances and other policy documents.
- Policy and Process Monitoring: Continuously reflect upon existing practices protocols and policies in BPS; evaluate effectiveness through a variety of methods and data points including but not limited to teacher and external stakeholder related feedback interdepartmental collaboration and needs from OMME. Revise problem solve and improve current methodology to increase effectiveness and efficiency for both central and school based staff around servicing MLs; ensure strategic data driven and continuous improvement of systems and structures; innovate and refine to maximize equity access and agency of English Learners and implement ML Programming with fidelity.
- Data Analysis and Quality Control:Ensure the integrity of data for MLs and ML staff including ongoing monitoring of ML data and ML staff data data extraction processing storage manipulation analysis and processing ML change and opt out requests from schools. Analyze data with basic statistical methods interpret results and provide written summaries of data analysis. Support schools and school staff with the use of Ellevation.
- Report Generation: Under the guidance of the OMME Senior Director of Equity and Accountability generate assigned reports that will provide internal and external stakeholders with actionable information about Multilingual Learner services and academic outcomes in particular with required reporting stemming from legal edicts that pertain to MLs including reports from ad hoc requests and school visits from stakeholders.
- Professionalism: Model professional behavior that addresses job responsibilities district policies and procedures and the expectations of professionals working in a multilingual multicultural and economically diverse community.
- Safe Respectful and Culturally Sensitive and Responsive Learning Communities: Build and maintain a safe fair and respectful learning environment that celebrates the diversity of the student population.
- Reflection Collaboration and Personal Growth: Reflect on practice in collaboration with colleagues monitor personal and professional growth and pursue professional development in needed areas.
- Other: Perform other tasks as requested by the Senior Director of Equity and Accountability or the Deputy Chief of Operations and Accountability for the Office of Multilingual and Multicultural Education.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
- Bachelors Degree in related field
- Must be able to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check
- Quantitative data analysis

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
- R Stata Python or other coding languages

TERMS: Flat Rate Stipend Pay of $4500 total over 3 payments. About 250 hours of work at 10 hours per week from September to May.
