Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  • Systematically gathers and evaluates relevant information and data from the patient interview and/or all the patient information sources.
  • Assures that the patient exams tests and/or procedures are consistent with the nature of patients needs and orders.
  • Identifies variations from expected findings and/or test values.
  • Takes appropriate actions when variations are identified.
  • Plans for and provides patient teachings.
  • Identifies situations when it is appropriate to involve the family and/or significant other and/or friends in patients education.
  • Prioritizes requests based on the nature of request and the condition and/or situation of the patients.
  • Assesses and reassesses the patients condition.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient service and care.
  • When appropriate delegates to other healthcare professionals.
  • Works together to complete assignments with departmental and healthcare team members.
  • Under the general supervision of Registered Respiratory Therapists provides direct Respiratory Care to patients by administering Respiratory Therapy modalities including the set-up and administration of oxygen therapy aerosol therapy and medication nebulization therapy; the application of Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) techniques
  • Make regular rounds and administers modalities according to plan established by a respiratory therapist; performs patient assessments observes and reports patients progress and reactions to treatment.
  • Makes suggestions for modification of treatment plan to respiratory therapist as indicated.
  • Completes necessary documentation of treatments given and patients responses and reports to the respiratory therapist nurse and physician as needed. Maintains appropriate departmental records

Physical Requirements
Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction) and handles (seizing holding grasping turning or working with hands). Occasionally stoop (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist) crouches (bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine).

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Minimum Education
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Minimum Licenses and Certifications
  • Current Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care Respiratory Care Limited Permit with verification of education to include support services for mechanical ventilation administer aerosolized medications and administration of medical gases.
  • ACLS required or obtained within 6-months of hire.
  • NRP required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • PALS required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
RequiredSkills
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Moderate written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to use medical equipment.
