Job Summary

Description of Work

The NC Department of Adult Corrections is seeking a Human Resources Technician I to join the DAC Human Resources Division in Raleigh. This position provides crucial support to the departments leave and benefits programs while also assisting as a liaison between the central benefits team and external customers. This is an opportunity to learn about or expand upon essential HR functions ensuring employees receive timely and accurate support. The ideal candidate will be a proactive organized and effective communicator comfortable with managing multiple tasks and projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the primary Health Benefits Representative with daily tasks and serving as a key backup for benefits and leave programs
  • Assisting with special projects including reviewing and distributing reports to internal and external customers
  • Serving as a liaison facilitating communication and support between the central benefits team and external customers
  • Processing and maintaining confidential personnel records including FMLA and other leave documentation
  • Providing accurate guidance to employees on leave separation and benefit processes
  • Assisting with the maintenance and reconciliation of employee leave data in spreadsheets and other systems

This position is pending reclassification.


This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

This position is eligible for a flexible/hybridtelework schedule under the State of NC Telework Program.

Management Preferences:
  • Documented experience of proofreading and utilizing office technology to compose correspondences reports or materials
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; handle confidential matters with tact and discretion; to express ideas clearly and concisely; to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions within area of responsibility; able to learn and apply rules procedures and practices for various human resources management activities or personnel actions

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associates degree typically in Human Resources from an appropriately accredited institution or relevant field and no years of experience required
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources
