Job Summary

Position Summary

The Michigan State University and Hurley Childrens Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative ( seeks to hire a Communications Coordinator for the Flint Registry ( project. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-designated public health authority the Flint Registrys goal is to connect people who were impacted by the Flint Water Crisis to resources and programs that serve to minimize the effects of lead on their health while promoting wellness and recovery.

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the overall dissemination of the Flint Registry public health outcomes and impact with stakeholders including community members researchers and policy makers. Under the direction of the Communications Manager the communications coordinator will work closely with Flint Registry leadership faculty staff partners media vendors and consultants across all program areas to support and disseminate information and this role the coordinator will:
Assist in planning writing editing and distributing participant communications and monthly community data dissemination pieces.
Monitor and help manage social media accounts (posting engagement tracking metrics responding to inquiries).
Support content creation for digital platforms.
Coordinate and maintain updates to the website ensuring content is accurate timely and accessible.
Monitor analytics and prepare summaries of communication efforts providing recommendations for improvement.
Other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time 9-month end-dated position. The work schedule will be hybrid with weekly in-office days and remote work options.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Communications Telecommunications Journalism Marketing or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news broadcasting and print media and/or marketing advertising and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience or coursework in health communications
Detail oriented with outstanding written (spelling grammar) and oral communication skills
Knowledge and experience with social media platforms and content creation
Experience communicating data in written and visual form
Skilled in using WordPress desktop publishing (Adobe Creative Cloud) Google Analytics PowerPoint and other messaging/content management tools
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
Energy enthusiasm and creativity
Knowledge of social media monitoring platform recommended
Knowledge of the Flint area
