The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value planning developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of maintenance and custodial tasks to include but not limited to conducting repairs and preventative maintenance to state park facilities and fleet vehicles operating and repairing equipment performing grounds maintenance collecting litter and emptying trash containers training volunteers and new employees cleaning various park buildings and picnic areas clearing and maintaining trails etc.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience or training in the building construction trades building maintenance maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
Six semester hours in construction management construction technology or engineering or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of sites equipment including plumbing wood repair electrical etc.
Makes general repairs to buildings interiors and exteriors fixtures HVAC painting etc.
Maintains and operates large equipment vehicles & small equipment such as utility vehicles all-terrain vehicles mowers front loaders weed eaters blowers pumps tractors chain saw etc.
Performs general road maintenance tasks and maintains trails.
Assists with maintaining park grounds such as mowing grass collecting litter removing limbs and debris trail maintenance and emptying trash receptacles.
Performs routine painting staining and other beautification tasks.
Assist custodial staff with cleaning bathroom facilities cabins meeting rooms lodges nature center pool area etc. as needed.
- Provides a high level of customer service and assists customers with inquiries.

Location:Ft. St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site in Natchitoches LA
Appointment Type:Probational or Promotional
Work Schedule: This State Historic Site is open Wednesday-Sunday closed for 3 major holidays. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed to ensure coverage at the park.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Maintenance Repairer 1 or 2.
Travel:Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
