Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Automation Engineer to support the launch and scale-up of a new manufacturing operation. This role plays a key part in designing developing and maintaining automation systems throughout the facilitys transition from startup to full-scale production. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving system reliability safety and continuous improvement across operations.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a green field initiative where your contributions will directly shape the sites automation architecture processes and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design program and implement automation systems from the ground up supporting both initial equipment installation and long-term optimization.

  • Collaborate across engineering IT and operations teams to assess automation needs and deploy effective solutions.

  • Develop scripts tools or frameworks to automate production testing and maintenance activities.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation system issues ensuring minimal downtime and rapid recovery.

  • Perform risk assessments and ensure all systems comply with safety regulations and industry standards.

  • Create and maintain technical documentation including workflows system architecture and configuration records.

  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Partner with the maintenance team to implement preventative maintenance strategies that maximize equipment reliability.

  • Stay informed on the latest trends and advancements in automation technologies and tools.

  • Provide regular progress updates and strategic input to the VP of Engineering.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Mechatronics Computer Science or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in automation controls or systems engineering roles within manufacturing environments.

  • Familiarity with industrial automation tools and platforms (e.g. PLCs SCADA Fanuc robotics vision systems).

  • Understanding of control system architecture and robotic integration.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication collaboration and organizational abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree or certifications (e.g. Certified Automation Professional).

  • Experience with tools such as Ignition Lynq MES SAP Power BI or CMMS platforms.

  • Exposure to cloud-based automation tools and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.

  • Familiarity with machine learning applications in automation and AI-driven systems.

  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in industrial automation.

  • Hands-on skills in installation calibration and maintenance of automation hardware/software.
