Job Summary

Instructs students in a well-disciplined managed and creative classroom:

Develops learning goals/lesson plans that are appropriate for students and are aligned with the schools curriculum or state standards; Demonstrates an understanding of the connections between the content that was learned previously the current content and the content that remains to be learned; Creates and selects teaching methods learning activities and instructional materials or other resources that are appropriate to the students and are aligned with the goals of the lesson/unit; Creates or selects evaluation strategies that are appropriate for the students and that are aligned with the goals of the lesson/unit; Establishes and maintains professional rapport with students; Establishes and maintains consistent standards of classroom behavior; Makes the physical environment safe and conducive to learning.

Assesses/monitors student progress:

Determines the extent to which individual students learning goals were met; Keeps records on academic performance and attendance; Conducts tests (Standardized and State Proficiency) in accordance with OSB policy and state law as requested; Reports cases of suspected child abuse to administration and/or law enforcement authorities according to state law; Makes referrals for special services on an as needed basis; Communicates with parents or guardians about student learning; Participates as a member of the IEP/ETR team (i.e. collects and maintains data completes evaluations completes progress reports and writes educational/behavioral plans/reports); Conducts parent-teacher conferences on an as needed basis.

Continues to develop professional skills:

Builds a professional relationship with colleagues to share teaching insight and to coordinate learning activities for students; Participates in faculty meetings school committees educational conferences and/or professional training days; Stays current on recent trends in Blind education and specific subject areas; Submits an annual Individual Professional Development Plan for review and approval by the LPDC; Upgrades personal/professional knowledge and skills pursuant to State of Ohio teaching licensure requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must maintain valid Ohio teaching licensure for grade level subject area or special class assignment

AND

Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard or a nationally recognized equivalent certificate

AND

Must hold a current CPR First Aid and AED certificate.*

*Lifeguard certificate and CPR First Aid and AED certificate may be attained after employment.
