Job Summary

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform railcar repairs in compliance with FRA and AAR interchange rules.
  • Conduct pre- and post-inspection of all assigned railcars.
  • Comply fully with all safety protocols including in house and OSHA rules regulations and procedures.
  • Perform repairs such as but not limited to basic mechanics grinding and touch-up painting and decaling on various types of railcars as required.
  • Set up and operate various hand and power tools such as but not limited to air arc plasma cutting welding machines and processes and oxyfuel operation in heating and cutting processes.
  • Inspect repair and replace defective or worn components on railcar equipment in safe working order such as truck assembly safety appliances brake systems wheels and draft systems.


Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • MUST BE ABLE TO BE ON-CALL AND TRAVEL UP TO 75%
  • Minimum 3 years experience doing inspections repairs and maintenance on freight cars per AAR rules and regulations.
  • Minimum 3 years welding experience
  • Meet the requirements of AWS D15.1 for freight cars utilizing SMAW (Stick) welding on carbon steel.
  • Able to perform single cat air brake testing troubleshooting and repair per AAR rule and regulations
  • Experience in jacking railcars replacing wheelsets rebuilding truck sets coupler and draft gear replacement.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical and welding aptitude as determined by Company leadership to successfully perform and complete assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and also able to work independently without supervision
  • Demonstrated reliability
  • Must be trainable and coachable

  • Frequently required use of hands for handling reaching with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to read talk and hear clearly
  • Frequently required to sit with frequent getting up standing walking squatting bending and lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Required to maintain confidentiality
