Office of Criminal Justice Services

About Us: The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety and the lead justice planning agency for the state of Ohio. OCJS administers grant funds to Ohios criminal justice constituents and coordinates Ohios comprehensive criminal justice plan. The agency safeguards federal and state criminal justice funds against waste to maximize the resources available in Ohios fight against crime. Grants are monitored for compliance audited for accuracy and evaluated for effectiveness.

OCJS also houses its own team of researchers and policy specialists who provide practitioners and policymakers with valuable information on many of the critical criminal justice issues facing our state. A substantial amount of this data is obtained from the Ohio Incident-Based Reporting System which is one of the states most significant justice technology links. Lastly OCJS facilitates several high-priority initiatives from the Governors office including the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and the Ohio Collaborative on Police-Community Relations.

5 yrs. trg. or 5 yrs. business administration management or public administration.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration management or public administration; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. supervisory administrative &/or managerial position.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program for academic field of study commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on File; 36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. supervisory administrative managerial &/or staff position involving planning research &/or policy/procedure development.

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Office of Criminal Justice Services/Anti-Human Trafficking

Report in location: 1970 West Broad Street Columbus OH 43223

Under direct supervision of the Anti-Human Trafficking Director serve in a fiduciary capacity & relieves superior of most difficult administrative duties in order to administer the statewide Anti-Trafficking of Children Program:

  • Plan develop & organize all program activities & initiatives;
  • Provide direction to OCJS staff Law Enforcement (LE) agencies &/or other organizations;
  • Ensure compliance with state & federal program requirements;
  • Transmit decisions & directives;
  • Respond to inquiries from the public & other government agencies;
  • Work directly with childrens advocacy centers to assist in assessing identifying & serving child & youth victims of human trafficking;
  • Provide programmatic oversight & management of the provision of funds to foster care agencies & child-serving organizations;
  • Provide case-specific technical assistance to child-serving professionals for serving child victims of human trafficking;
  • Formulate & implement Child Trafficking Program policies & procedures (e.g. research develop & implement policies & procedures; create policies & procedures for best practices specific to provision of victim services law enforcement interaction & prosecution awareness; review legislation for potential impact & related prosecutions &/or victim services; provide input on proposed legislation state-level policy & proposed local ordinances that impact child trafficking);
    Work with the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services Ohio Department of Children & Youth & other child-focused state agencies on trafficking specific policy including training requirements for caseworkers human trafficking screening & assessment guidelines & guidance for case planning;
  • Provide human trafficking training & technical assistance to juvenile courts public children services agencies & other child-serving systems;
  • Develop & present advanced training content on identifying & serving child & youth victims of human trafficking;
  • Inform & develop public-facing anti-trafficking resources specific to juveniles such as human trafficking awareness curricula & screening tools/risk assessments;
  • Connect school districts with age-appropriate human trafficking prevention curricula for students & with human trafficking training & resources for school staff;
  • Vet & compile existing resources for combating trafficking of children & youth;
  • Review & inform Ohio Administrative Code rules related to human trafficking of children & youth;
  • Measure & report on outcomes of anti-trafficking programs to inform policy;
  • Stay up to date & disseminate &/or educate on best practices & promising practices related to serving child victims of human trafficking;
  • Communicate with diverse groups of stakeholders (i.e. coalitions law enforcement general public etc.) via email phone written &/or correspondences;
  • Develop & prepare required records & reports;
  • Review & interpret relevant reports & data; Create tables graphs reports etc. to convey important data trends & present the data clearly;
  • Support efforts to strengthen anti-trafficking coalitions by attending meetings events & subcommittee meetings as necessary & assist in delivering presentations & trainings as necessary;
  • Represent Anti-Human Trafficking Director at meetings & conferences with state federal & community agencies & speak on policy matters;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
