As a first-line working supervisor you will serve as a process and subject matter expert for your staff officers in the field and other local this role you will hire staff review performance and administer discipline as well as use a variety of specialized software systems to record law enforcement data. The work performed is completed oftentimes under strict time constraints and sometimes in emergency situations.

The Washington County Sheriffs Office (WCSO) is a full-service law enforcement agency located in Hillsboro Oregon serving the residents of the countys urban and rural areas. WCSO enhances public safety by fostering professionalism compassion and trust within its team and the communities it serves. WCSO is the primary first responder for unincorporated residents offering services from routine patrol and crime investigation to specialized teams. The WCSO also operates the countys only jail and provides services to cities within the county on a contract basis.

Duties may include:

1. Plans prioritizes assigns supervises and reviews the work of Criminal Records Specialists I/IIs.
2. Ensures that staff has adequate training and orientation to their assignments; supports staff development through coaching training conducting regular performance evaluations and providing timely balanced feedback about performance.
3. Investigates employee complaints and recommends solutions; approves leave requests and overtime; and schedules vacations to assure adequate coverage to meet production standards.
4. Verifies that quality and productivity standards are met consistently; reviews Records Unit staff reports for content accuracy completeness and written clarity; prepares various reports on unit work activities; and reviews reports by outside divisions and verifies compliance with records procedures and policy guidelines.
5. Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity equity and inclusion and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
6. Analyzes operating procedures to design the most efficient methods to accomplish the work; analyzes data and develops information; and recommends implementation of new processes and trains staff in its application.
7. Supports staff with challenging situations or customers by answering questions from angry impaired or intoxicated members of the public; assists staff by locating resource materials and people who can assist; determines when/if release of records information is appropriate; and interprets records policy and gives direction on appropriate action or clarifies procedures.
8. Troubleshoots and assists users for various databases; determines when to contact technology services; and resets passwords for the Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) and Records Management system.
9. Prepares criminal and other reports for the court and District Attorneys Office; maintains and compiles warrants statistics; and assists patrol and jail divisions and outside agencies by researching records information.
10. Trains new patrol and jail recruits in the proper use of LEDS and other law enforcement data systems.
11. Presents testimony related to job duties in court and represents the Sheriffs Office at various meetings.
12. May perform any of the duties of a lower-level Records Specialists in low staffing situations.

Education and Experience:

• An Associates Degree and three (3) years of law enforcement records or related administrative experience; OR
• Five (5) years of law enforcement records or related administrative experience. A combination of direct supervision lead worker or trainer experience may substitute for up to two (2) years of the law enforcement records or other related administrative experience.

• Must pass an extensive background Investigation conducted by the Sheriffs Office.
• Finalist will also be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
