Description of Work

The North Carolina State Highway Patrols primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as addition to enforcing the states traffic laws state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

Are you an experienced mechanic ready to supervise and coordinate vehicle repairs Join our team and play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly.

The Mechanic Supervisor II position is responsible for the supervision of the staff of each respective facility. The Mechanic Supervisor II must schedule work based on the amount of time needed for each job available staff and type and urgency of repair. The Mechanic Supervisor II must coordinate vehicle repairs for the NCSHP State Bureau of Investigation and Alcohol Law Enforcement. Routine maintenance is provided on regular six thousand (6000)-mile intervals while all other repairs and/or maintenance are scheduled as needed. The Mechanic Supervisor II must maintain constant awareness throughout the facility that law enforcement motor vehicles continually operate at high speed and under severe conditions; thus creating a need for flawless maintenance and repairs. He must also ensure that total quality management is implemented in every aspect of the facility to provide the highest level of service possible.

Planning and Organizing Work
Ability to develop plans to accomplish work operations and objectives;
Ability to arrange and assign work to use resources efficiently.
Ability to maintain routine clerical records on the equipment repaired

Technical Knowledge
Ability to demonstrate a designated level of technical skill or knowledge in a specific technical area(s) and keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise which may be acquired through academic apprenticeship or on-the-job training or a combination of these.
Ability to diagnose operating defects in automotive equipment and determine the type and extent of repairs needed.
Ability to read and utilize manufacturers manuals and reference guides.

Human Resource Management
Ability to recruit select develop counsel discipline and evaluate performance of employees to retain a diverse workforce; administer and ensures compliance with human resources policies and procedures.
Ability to observe and assess work; provide feedback; may provide technical supervision; develop knowledge skills and abilities of employees; plan for and supports employees in career development opportunities.

Problem Solving
Ability to troubleshoot complex vehicle repairs using the proper tools resources equipment and training.
Ability to identify problems determines possible solutions and actively works to resolve the issues.
Must have the ability to read and comprehend repair manuals.


Necessary Special Qualifications:
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I II III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82 subpart F.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three (3) years of progressive experience in the repair of vehicles and/or equipment and with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
