The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabanks Corporate Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

GBME is searching for Technical Analyst to liaison between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams ensuring solutions are developed and delivered on time efficiently and with high quality for various projects within GBME.

The successful candidate will have a results-oriented and curious mindset with strong technical skills. You will work closely with cross functional teams including engineers solutions architects and business teams to develop and implement market leading solutions that are scalable and deliver excellence and value to our business partners and customers.

(Initial project that candidate will be working with in GBME):

  • User-Centered Design & Research
    • Conduct user research usability testing and gather feedback to improve design.
    • Create and maintain design documentation including user personas journey maps and usability reports.
    • Advocate for usability and accessibility standards in final product delivery.
    • Collaborate with interface designers to develop wireframes prototypes and user flows.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirement Gathering
    • Engage with stakeholders across Sales & Trading Support Product Control and Middle/Back Office functions to solicit and clarify requirements.
    • Document use cases and requirements for services involving data enrichment translation aggregation and messaging bus interactions.
    • Collaborate with product managers developers and other stakeholders to define and implement innovative product solutions.
  • Trade Lifecycle & Financial Instruments Expertise
    • Capture business requirements for Listed and OTC Products covering Trade Capture Lifecycle Pricing Model Integration Clearing and Settlement.
    • Understand trade events such as Booking/Management Corporate Actions Unwind Rate Reset/Fixing and Realized Cashflows.
    • Familiarity with end-to-end trade workflows across Front Middle and Back Office systems.
    • Advanced knowledge of derivatives including Interest Rate Swaps Equity Total Return Swaps Equity Options Equities and Bonds.
  • System Integration & Technical Tools
    • Integrate with Trade and Position Management Systems Instrument Master Systems and market/reference data services.
    • Experience with near-real-time systems in capital markets.
    • Familiarity with messaging bus technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka).
    • Use Jira and Confluence for delivery tracking and documentation.
  • Development Collaboration & Testing
    • Collaborate with development teams to interpret requirements and deliver functionalities.
    • Create data flow and sequence diagrams to support development.
    • Perform functional and regression testing including automation.

  • Demonstrate an informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure business specifications/requirements documentation is accurately prepared and comprehensive to support sizing/development efforts and as input to various project documentation.
  • Develop and deliver Business Requirements Documents Design Documents Use Cases and Process Models as required.
  • Work closely across GBME technology teams during all stages of the system development life cycle and bridge the gap between business and technology sides of the solution.
  • Liaising between the business community and the IT organization to provide technical solutions that meet user needs.
  • Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in Global regions.
  • Support production issues and handle escalations during Release cycles as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc work as needed.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role Wed love to work with you if you have:

  • Experience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment.
  • 4 years practical experience and product business knowledge in capital markets.
  • Experience working with all phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
  • Experience with Jira Confluence delivery tracking and documentation software.
  • Scripting with Python or other scripting languages SQL.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving and communication skills.
  • A recognized undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration computer science or related field required.
  • Experience with data flow sequence diagramming other software diagramming models is an asset.
  • Excellent working experience of Microsoft suite of products (Word Excel PowerPoint Project).

Preferred Qualifications

  • An understanding of the Banks application system and software from a business/technical viewpoint is required to assess the impact of development and/or changes to the overall data processing environment).
  • Experience participating in agile projects that span change in front middle or back-office systems and teams.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma or similar is an asset.
  • Knowledge of HTML CSS and JavaScript is a plus.
  • Delivery management in agile environment (i.e. prioritization planning managing dealing with disruptions) is a bonus.
