SALARY RANGE: $25.34 - $35.58 per hour
HIRING RANGE: $25.34 - $30.46 per hour Commensurate to experience.
This is a full-time/hourly position

RELOCATION: This position is located in Greenwood Village Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.
REQUIREMENTS: One to three years of progressively responsible experience in related field construction and utility experience preferred. Education equivalent to a high school diploma. Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Colorado drivers license in accordance with Colorado law and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Citys insurance carrier.

The City of Greenwood Village welcomes your application for our Utility Locator position within our Public Works Department. The purpose of this position is to accurately identify mark and record Greenwood Villages underground infrastructure in a timely manner. The Utility Locator will build relationships communicate and coordinate locate tasks with internal and external customers to ensure a safe and well-organized community.
As a municipal organization Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations including weather-related emergencies may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employees specific job function but which will be within the physical capabilities training and skills of the employee.
Essential Functions:
A. Field Locating Tasks
- Build positive relationships with internal staff contractors and citizens; coordinate a variety of utility location tasks between groups with a commitment to customer service.
- Reads and understands utility maps prints plan sets and aerial imagery to assist in the identification of underground assets.
- Correctly safely and efficiently locate underground infrastructure including storm drain systems electrical and telecommunication lines related to traffic signal and streetlight infrastructure; make decisions and exercise technical judgement taking remedial action when necessary.
- Prioritizes workload by reviewing all locate tickets and properly planning daily route of work and timelines.
- Operate and maintain specialized locating equipment and tools used to locate underground assets.
- Operates handheld detection equipment in the designed manner. Marks the location of underground utility assets on roadways private property and other ground surface locations as appropriate and needed using required spray paints flags or other marking devices
- Conduct field meetings with contractors or customers and other representatives from outside agencies and identify the location of each utility line; attend project meetings regarding construction and engineering projects.
- Investigate and answer requests suggestions and complaints; interpret and explain regulations codes and policies to interested parties.
- Responds to emergency requests for utility locates.
B. Data Collection and Reporting
- Ability to utilize Geographic Information Software (GIS) to enter in information on City owned and maintained assets.
- Maintains and updates records and construction drawings to mark utility lines within accuracy requirements of state laws.
- Prepares various reports forms and memos to document completed work problems encountered and/or resolved investigates and drafts summary reports for damaged utilities.
- Complete all necessary digital documentation and paperwork.
C. Miscellaneous Duties
- Performs minor maintenance on equipment.
- Cleans and maintains tools workspace equipment etc.
- Maintains inventory of locate supplies; replenishes supplies when necessary according to City purchasing policies.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

- Principles and practices of the subsurface locating equipment and guidelines.
- Engineering and cartographic principles in the creation of maps displays and presentation material in electronic and hardcopy formats.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
- Materials equipment rules regulations and ordinances governing the installation repair and maintenance of underground utilities.
- Components of stormwater collection traffic signal and streetlight systems.
- Safety practices and procedures related to traffic control confined spaces fall prevention and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Methods techniques tools and equipment utilized in the opening of utility access structures and performing screening asset inspections.
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Work in all types of terrain (ditches grass steep vertical banks edge of travel-way) all types of environments (construction sites state roads local roads industrial areas and private properties) and all types of weather conditions.
- Exercise caution in high-traffic areas and roads to mark locates safely.
- Work independently and under minimal supervision.
- Operate related equipment and instruments safely and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Manage daily tasks of reviewing locate tickets contacting responsible parties and completing locate tickets in a timely manner.
- Learn to view City owned assets spatially be able to add to a geospatial database using City equipment and read and understand engineering plans
