UI Heart and Vascular Center is seeking an 100% Nurse Clinician to support our Electrophysiology Device Team.
The UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is seeking a Nurse Clinician to function as a clinical expert and care coordinator for EP Device patients while collaborating with physicians patients/families UI Health Care staff and health care agencies. Responsible for in-person and remote device checks providing education and follow up care to patients undergoing diagnostic and surgical procedures and maintaining open channels of communication with health care units involved in the care of cardiac implantation patients.

Being a Nurse in the Heart and Vascular Center
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborates with nursing medical staff and other health professionals in the development and review of standards and in planning implementing and evaluating patient care for the EP device patient population with regard to the condition and age of the patient. Provides direct nursing care when necessary. Follows universal precautions.
- Oversees patient flow through the EP Device Clinic. Perform device checks for in-clinic patients.
- Responsible for in-person and remote device checks. Log onto each of the remote monitoring device websites analyze each new transmission complete a remote transmission report and communicate any alarm conditions abnormality of heart rhythm or change in device function to the appropriate physician in a time-appropriate manner. Organize EP Device Clinic and ensure appropriate tracking of patients and billing.
- Independently perform in clinic device check identify device issue ability to troubleshoot under supervision of ordering provider device issues.
- Independently coordinates and facilitates patient care between multiple disciplines within both the confines of UI Health Care and the community (including home health agencies referring physicians and other community support services). Facilitates continuity of care.
- Coordinates patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visit pre-schedules testing follows up with test results to both patient and physician obtains medical history coordinates follow up appointments provides medication and disease process teaching etc. Participate in the ongoing management of the patient to facilitate care of patient in a timely manner.
- Facilitates care of EP Device patients requiring admission coordinating necessary admission procedures pre and post procedure care.
- Acts as a clinical resource or consultant for EP Device patient populations with regard to the condition and age of the patients.
- Participates in implementation and requirements of managed care programs for EP Device patient populations.
- Operates autonomously in communicating with members of the health care team directing patient care and providing continuity of care across settings throughout the phases of care.
- Autonomously communicates with referring physician and health care facilities.
- Revises patient care regime via the telephone within protocols developed collaboratively. Performs telephone triage of patient calls to the EP Device Service and facilitates medication refills as needed.
- Provide cross-coverage to other UI Heart & Vascular Center Nurse Coordinators as needed/requested.
- Performs clinical duties special projects and other tasks as needed.
- Design and implement patient/family health education activities for EP Device patients recognizing individualized need.
- Provides patient education in EP Device clinics that includes:
- Assess learning needs of patients and families post-op procedures and provides appropriate education related to diagnosis procedure performed risk factor modification and treatment regimens.
- Facilitates learning and provides consultation to those in external agencies communities and to other healthcare professionals.
- Supports implementation and evaluation of staff education and orientation programs coordinating and presenting those related to transplant.
- Facilitates the educational experience for health care students and monitors the care delivered.
- Incorporates the role of patient care provider advocate (patient family and health care professional) consultant educator researcher and quality manager.
- Provide assistance with the STS quality database including compiling and entering quality data.
- Participates in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement program using appropriate risk and quality management data.
- Uses relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice and investigate nursing care problems related toa specific patient population.
- Participates in development and conduct of research activities initiated through recognized need in area of specialty and as directed with other disciplines.
- Interacts with staff patients medical staff peers and others in a professional and cooperative manner.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practice.
- Develops management and consultant skills consistent with position responsibilities.
- Adheres to professional and legal standards of nursing practice.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.

Education Requirement
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is required.
Experience Requirement
Certification/Licensure Requirement
- Current certification in BLS required by start date.
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa required by start date.
