Job Summary

Position Summary

The Director of Instructional Technology provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the integration and advancement of instructional technologies across the Alabama Community College System. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective integration of digital tools to support teaching learning and administrative functions across the ACCS. The Director supports faculty staff and students by promoting innovative teaching practices and managing digital learning environments that include a system-wide Learning Management System (LMS) and associated educational technologies. The Director collaborates with academic and administrative departments IT services and external partners to enhance the digital learning environment and oversees user support training and system optimization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  1. Develop and implement a system-wide vision for instructional technology initiatives aligned with ACCS strategic goals.
  2. Lead the selection deployment and evaluation of learning management systems digital learning platforms and associated tools.
  3. Provide strategic direction for online hybrid and technology-enhanced course delivery.
  4. Oversee daily operations maintenance and performance of the system-wide LMS across all ACCS institutions.
  5. Ensure system reliability data integrity and security in coordination with IT teams.
  6. Manage LMS and other integrated solutions user roles permissions and access protocols.
  7. Collaborate with faculty and academic leaders to integrate digital tools into curriculum and pedagogy.
  8. Promote innovative uses of technology to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
  9. Design and deliver training programs for faculty staff and students on LMS usage and instructional technology best practices.
  10. Facilitate professional development initiatives focused on digital pedagogy.
  11. Supervise support teams to ensure timely and effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 support.
  12. Monitor service requests and feedback to improve overall faculty and student experience.
  13. Maintain documentation FAQs and user guides for LMS and related tools.
  14. Ensure compliance with FERPA ADA copyright laws data privacy and other relevant regulations.
  15. Promote inclusive and accessible learning environments across all platforms.

SECONDARY DUTIES:
  1. Assist ACCS institutions in the development and implementation of affordable learning materials in online courses.
  2. Collaborate with other System Office personnel to develop sites for sharing information and resources on distance education.
  3. Assist in identifying and evaluating opportunities for grants to fund the expansion and/or improvement of distance education; assist in the development of related projects applications for funding and implementation and evaluation of any grant-funded projects.
  4. Represent the college system at regional and national conferences and consortia.
  5. Facilitate pilot programs and research initiatives involving instructional technology.
  6. Understand and promote the use of data to make informed decisions.
  7. Serve on ACCS and external committees advisory councils and task forces as requested.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  1. Masters degree in Instructional Technology Educational Technology Curriculum & Instruction or a related field.
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in instructional technology leadership within higher education.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in LMS administration and digital pedagogy.
  4. Strong leadership project management and interpersonal skills.
  5. Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG Section 508) and FERPA compliance.
  6. Experience designing and delivering faculty development programs.
  7. Experience in program and policy development and project management.
  8. Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
  9. Effective and efficient problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED:
  1. Doctorate in Instructional Technology Educational Technology Curriculum & Instruction or a related field.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in instructional technology leadership within higher education.
  3. Experience in a multi-campus or system-level role.
  4. Experience with data-informed decision-making and learning analytics.
  5. Proven success in managing cross-functional teams and collaborative initiatives.
  6. Knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
