Job Summary
The Academic Success Coach supports students by helping them develop academic skills overcome challenges and achieve their educational goals. This role assists students in adapting to the demands of higher education by helping them build essential academic skills navigate college expectations and develop effective learning strategies. The Academic Success Coach plays a vital role in Midland Colleges retention and completion efforts by providing guidance resources and early interventions to help students stay on track academically.
Essential Functions
Provide one-on-one and small group coaching to students on academic skills Assist with onboarding new students by introducing them to academic expectations course requirements and available support services Provide targeted outreach to specific at-risk student populations Assist students in developing personalized academic success plans Monitor student progress and intervene when academic difficulties arise Assist the Chap Success Center with planning and facilitating workshops on study strategies test preparation and other learning strategies Maintain accurate records of student interactions and progress
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time This position may require occasional travel for training meetings and events both in and out of town Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds Office setting
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree from an accredited university Experience working directly with students Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in higher education Experience advising or tutoring students Fluent in Spanish
